TRACKING A STOLEN IPHONE

My iPhone 14 Pro was stolen 2 weeks ago. That night I rushed, logged online in find my, locked and marked the phone as a lost device. I then reported the incident to the police and started tracking the phone.

However, the following day, I received a notification stating that the phone would automatically delete itself from my account in a month, which I did not understand because I hadn't initiated anything like this.

I am worried that if it deletes itself from the security measures of my account, then the thief is going to get a free unlocked iPhone which beats the trust that I had for these phones over the rest. What can i do to stop this?

Always remember:

A passcode-locked iPhone - even while it’s still in your possession - is AS LOCKED and SECURE as it will ever be.

The data on the phone is encrypted using your passcode.

No Passcode Knowledge = No Data Access

EVEN YOU can’t access your iPhone - or recover it’s onboard data - w/o your passcode. (And if you forget it, even Apple can’t help you.)

Loss or theft of an iPhone is indeed a financial burden, and can be a temporary PITA, but it should NEVER be a personal data security risk.

This is why criminals now rely on elaborate - and often quite sophisticated - spear-phishing campaigns attempting to “induce / trick / squeeze / cajole / threaten” the Apple credentials out of the owner.

DON’T fall for it; NEVER share or reveal your device passcode and/or AppleID password, and never remove a lost or stolen device from your account.
