How to stop pop ups in Safari?

Google pop up ads have suddenly started coming in with loud music. I have Safari’s pop-up blocker on, but it hasn’t worked on those annoying Google ads for a long time. Now I get startlingly loud music with an ad when I go to a new page on my iPad. Is there any way to stop it?
