Apple TV+ only rotates to landscape mode if I turn Portrait Orientation Lock off

Whenever I use Apple TV+, videos will only play in landscape if I turn off Portrait Orientation Lock. This is inconvenient because when I move the phone around, I have to make sure to keep the phone oriented in landscape fashion or the video automatically rotates. It's a real pain.

From what I'm gathering, this is a feature, not a bug? It seems that, somehow, Apple is the only video streaming service that hasn't managed to allow landscape video while Portrait Orientation Lock is on. How can this be?

If there really is no fix I can apply for this, then I am requesting this feature from Apple.
