All I can tell you is that the solution I posted worked for me.

Of course, this was after our friends at Apple put me through the **** of archive and re-install of the OS. (A step that wasn't needed, since the problem was still there after re-installing the OS)

If I remember the steps, they involved removing the following items in the user library:

~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.plist

and then deleting the .plist files from here:

~\library\application suport\iCal

and then moving the Sources folder from here to the Desktop:

~\library\application suport\iCal

Then a restarted my Mac and lunched iCal. Everything worked as expected and has continued to work properly even after adding events, re-starting and doing a sync with Mark Space Missing Sync.

Knock on wood, it keeps working.

If this issue is driving you nuts and my fix doesn't work, please consider going to http:
www.macfixit.com and sending them an e-mail. Lots more Apple tech types read MacFixit than read the discussion boards, so maybe if they publish the issue, we'll get other solutions.

I can't take credit for the solution above, as it was posted here in another thread by someone a lot smarter than I am.

I have followed these instructions to the letter and they seem to be working!
Use this and hopefully all will be well.
Thanks Norm.

Well, after being overly optimistic, my ical calendars are back to dissappearing.
I didn't see anything on MacFixIt.
Anybody having any luck, and have you used/adapted Norm's suggestions?

Brain:

My iCal is still there. I'm only using Mark Space Missing Sync. I am not using iSync at all.

After your calendars came back, did you use iSync?

Perhaps the problem lies in iSync and not in iCal??

Don't check MacFixit, write to them and report your problem. They will not report on the problem until they see lots of others having the same problem.

Good luck . . .

Actually Norm, I am currently not syncing at all.
Each time i restart, the calendars dissppear, but not the events.
So, I will write to those macFixit dudes and see about suggestions.
I am sure the last OSX update is the culprit, cause it was working fine before.
Thanks for your help.

Just to add my experiences: this has happened on 2 separate computers, my G5 and my powerbook, both with Missing sync 5.0.2. Tried Norm's suggestions and got the left pane calendar list and the todos list back intially but after a relaunch the calendars and todos are both missing again. I have completly uninstalled Missing Sync and gone through Norm's routine again with same result - all came back at first but gone again after relaunch. At least one computer at work which does NOT have Missing Sync installed also had the same problem but it seemed to resolve itself, at least for now.

For the time being I am relying on my Palm to keep my calendars!

Same exact problem with iCal and Missing Sync 5.0.2. Contacted Mark/Space support; haven't heard back yet.

Also having exact same problem with combination of Missing Sync and iCal. Events are there if you change view to week and then back to month. Whenever I add a new event it is not visible in month view until I change to week view but unable to see the different Calendars. Norm's fix works for me until I close the program down and re-open.

Got a response from Mark/Space. They will not take responsibility for the problem and suggest exporting a backup iCal database, then reverting to that backup, which I had done already. They also suggest contacting Apple...

Norm's fix works for me too--once, then goes back to the same symptoms.

Even if there is a design problem with Sync Services and it's not really Missing Sync's fault, if Missing Sync doesn't work with Sync Services on Tiger, then they really shouldn't be advertising/selling their product until the issue is resolved on one or both ends, in my opinion. I was all excited about the integration of Palm OS 5 with all its enhancements and the Mac OS X apps via Missing Sync 5.0.2, and it worked for ONE day, and now I'm completely frustrated.

Does anyone know if going back to using the iSync conduit will alleviate the issue until it's fixed, or will that cause even more problems? I'm hesitant to try and just live with a half-working iCal...

I have been having all of these exact same problems, and have completely given up and now use Now Up to Date. Mark Space has never returned any of my emails, nor have any of the suggestions work with any regularity.
Skip ical altogether and switch to something else; you will be less frustrated.

Can anyone comment on whether this problem has been resolved with the 10.4.4 update?

Hello all,
I have updated with the new Missing Sync program after giving up and it is now working great! Before the 10.4.4 update as well!

I was hoping the 10.4.4 update combined with the 5.0.3 Missing Sync update would solve this. The problem where calendars would not be listed and events not appear at first went away PRIOR to either update, after I rebuilt the iCal database a few times--deleting all the iCal and SyncServices data and restoring from my Palm. The sync problem of the Mark/Space Events conduit stalling was not solved, and still isn't after either update. I can delete all the iCal and SyncServices data, repopulate iCal from my Palm and re-sync a couple times, then the conduit will never sync again. Mark/Space support continues to blame Apple for this.

I've updated the MissingSync and to Mac OS X 10.4.4 but still having same problem. Also contacted MarkSpace who first of all didn't think this was a significant problem at all and then when I sent them a copy of the MacFixit Forum posting told me to contact Apple. Great!

This is a story so weird, that it should be left untold, but ...
Ok, I'm using 10.4.4, Missing sync 502 and tried TimeLog and got into these symptoms.

In desperation started to delete calendars from iCal - start iCal, click Calendars pane, wait a sec and press backspace several times, say five ... iCal crashes, restart and repeat deleting. After several times of this I was able to delete a couple of calendars and make iCal quit. Somehow there seemed to be tens or hundreds of nameless empty calendars above my valid calendars.

In the end deleted every calendar and thus every entry in iCal, deleted about every file with iCal in their name from ~home/library/application support and preferences, restored from iCal database backup and it has been sane for 10 minutes now. Even missing sync seems to work.

This should not be taken as recipe for repair but as a vague description of what seemed to happen.

Proceed carefully!
