Probably i found a solution... for mine...
reboot the mac in safe boot ("C" key during booting)
open mac HD
enter in system / library
copy the "Startup Items" folder on Desktop and delete the original folder
then reboot your mac normally
It could work
Then try to put once for time every folder of Startupitems into its original folder...
every time roboot the system normally, when the system hang you find the broken file...

This fix of removing Adobe Version Cue on Intel iMac freezing after installing the latest Security Update works.

Thanks

Same problem here. Got my (Intel) Mac working by manually removing Adobe Creative Suite as described at http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/331301.html (take care, file and path names are not fully correct with regard to spaces and caps).

Didn't try to re-install Adobe CS2. I'd like to have to a less drastic solution for the problem. Having Adobe CS2 working on my iMac would be nice ...

Well thank you very very much !

Same problem - started after Update Intel 003.
Blue progress bar "Starting Mac OSX" -
it got just started and then system hung.

I rebooted in safe mode (holding shift).
In Programs i deleted Version Cue.
Rebooted...
all well now.

I was in panic.
But then i found this thread.

Again - THANK YOU !

Hi All -
glad to hear I'm not the only one.
I don't have version cue in my startup folder, so it wasn't the culprit - (and no, don't use it - but do have it)
- I had to do an archive and install - and basically not install the security update OR quicktime 7.1 afterwards- such a pain in the butt and this is the first time an update has 'broken' my system -

Basically the ongoing problem prior to re-installing was whenever I tried to create a pdf, everything completely freezes up - except the mouse; but that's it.

Hello Apple - please update your updates!

Cheers,
Paul.

Thanks macsurgeon for your post, your solution worked for me too.
Obviously the bug with the 10.4.6 new update has something to do with the 'startup items' folder so here's another simple way: boot in safe mode (shift key), then just cut & paste 'startup items' folder to desktop, reboot and then place 'startup items' folder back again to system / library
Good luck!

PS: Apple guys, are u there?

Same here ... I did the Version Cue fix and everything was fine until I needed to print to the Adobe PDF 7.0 printer/distiller. Completely locked up everything except the mouse. Even rebooting wouldn't work as the print job was still in the queue. I had to reboot in safe boot mode and reset the printing system.

I then had to Archive & Reinstall the whole OS on my new MBP in order to get a job off to our printer for publishing this morning. I was up all night. This is not a good thing.

I have yet to upgrade to 10.4.6 since I reinstalled ... I was running the software update but realized I was installing the quicktime 7.1 update (I was very tired) and I force quitted the install process. It appears quicktime 7.1 did install ... but I can still use the PDF printer. Very strange.

I am most likely going to do another Archive & Install later today after I get these jobs off so I can remove Quicktime 7.1 ... I don't want to take any chances.

Cheers,
Michael

AdobeVersionCueCS2 is the startup item from Adobe that causes freezes. Removing it seems to solve the problem.

BUT, I have found that printing to the Adobe PDF 7 printer/distiller also causes the system to freeze. Has anyone found a work around for this?

i had a freeze problem last weekend with the security update, and it was adobe version cue that caused that. but now i have got a different freeze startup prpblem. it gets past the "starting mac os x" scroll bar, to the login screen then freezes as i type my password. also, i have no airport anymore. my console log was very simliar to the one already posted. it says AuthServer is a problem startupitem but that is a System startup item and i dont want to remove it. it also tells me "WirelessAirPortDeviceNameCopy(): no AirPort driver found" as it did another user on this topic. as with many other poeple on this topic, it all happened after i was printing something to PDF from photoshop. the system froze during the printing, so i had to force a restart and since then i cannot login without it freezing (safe mode works, but i need full functionality back, i cant even print in safemode or listen to music).

please someone provide the answer we all need.

i just found another thread where they said we do load safe mode and go to applications/utiliteis/print setup utility then reset printer (from the apple menu) and i can now start, but i wont be printing to PDF until there is a fix from adobe.

I have the answer to your question! And it has nothing to do with Adobe Version Cue (while this is the problem for some users, I dont think your original problem was not to do with that program).

I had the same issue (my console.log file was very similar), and now have my computer back to normal (within reason). The problem for me was converting to PDF. it appears there is an issue with the new security update and converting to PDF files with Adobe. so eventually i started up safe mode and opened the Printer Setup Utility (Applications>Utilities) then RESET PRINTING SYSTEM... from the menu and restarted again. this solved my problem. however I havent printed to PDF since, and I assume if I do that my problem will return I and will have to reset the printing system once again. but if you can get by without printing to PDF for now, then this will return your computer to normal!

hope it helps, cause I was so relieved when i finally fixed it on my computer
