Albums and songs that start with "the"

Hi,
since updating to iTunes 7.1 I have encountered weird behaviour with my fifth generation iPod. If I go to Music->Albums or Music->Songs then run my finger around the click wheel fast enough for the alphabetised scrolling to kick in (i.e. the alphabet letter appears in the middle of the screen and you scroll one letter at a time; the feature Apple added with a firmware update a few months ago) then the iPod is confused by albums or songs that start with "the".
For example, with the song list Final Day, The Final Mistake, Find The Answer Within it will offer the alphabet sequence F, T, F. So instead of the quick alphabet scroll going A, B, C, D, E, etc, it now goes more like A, B, T, B, T, B, C, T, C, T, C ... — each appearance of T representing a song that is at the correct place in the list but happens to start with "The".
The same behaviour is not duplicated by the Artists list, which still scrolls correctly.
Is there anything I can do about this, or is it an iTunes/iPod bug?

Yes, I get this too, and it's driving me absolutely mad...if this is some new feature, what purpose does it have? It doesn't make searching any easier, it just makes it annoying...I thought I had a broken iPod on my hands, but instead I just have a really annoying one.

Upgraded to 7.1 today. Have the same issue. Seems to be a new "feature". Not sure what planet they are on.

I was coming to this forum specifically to ask if anyone else had experienced this issue since the 7.1 update.
Seems that Apple didn't think of this when incorporating the new Sort features in iTunes 7.1. Time for a new iPod firmware update, guys. Get on it.

I feel I should also join in to let you know I have the same problem and posted. I tried searching for the discussion but couldn't find one.

That should take you to the thread I started. I put it on there because there is the link to send complaints to Apple.
I really don't think they did this thing with the letter "T" on purpose, it has to be an oversight. Its GREAT that the word "the" is not incorporated into the alphabetizing, as that is grammatically but correct, but it needs to be consistent.
Make sure to voice your complaint to Apple. It is absolutely a lazy incompetent error.

I tried turning OFF the compilations setting. This seems to fix the problem as a work around, but not my problem below, sadly.

When was that released?
I came here to add something interesting. I just went to my brother's and updated some songs there. It reorganized the songs to where it counted the word "the", so this eliminated the problem with T, but now "the" is bunched together, oh well. Does 7.1.1 keep organizing by way of "the" but eliminate the T popping up? (im sure ill find out when I get home, but I'm just impatient I guess).
Another interesting thing regarding this new iTunes is that it completely screwed up my TV shows. I did post about this earlier too. THE OFFICE was no longer in proper order. It was in a jumbled mess. Somehow, on 7.0, not sure which category it went by, but it knew exactly which show came first in each season, but then with 7.1, it kept it in the right season, but a jumbled mess. I hope 7.1.1 fixed that organizing problem too. They seem to be interelated.

Ok, great they fixed this, but at the sake of adding a decent normal grammatically correct feature. So, the T doesn't pop up anymore, but that is because they bunched together the word "the" again. What the **** (scuse me)? What a patronizing update! Why not call the update "7.0 again"?

I'm sure they were addressing more than this issue. Some are saying that this update actually didn't even address this issue. Send your feedback to Apple and someday it will get addressed. In the meantime can you still listern to music on your iPod? If so your problem is relatively minor.

Well, I still prefer 7.1.1 to 7.1 in this respect (even if it is more like 7.0). I'd rather not have a new feature than a broken new feature. YMMV.

I agree, that is precisely what I sent them. It just seems so easy.
Hopefully they will leave this post open so we can revisit this at the next update.
