No Batteries Available message...

Hi,
My battery indicator on the menu bar specifies "No Batteries Available" when there is a battery in the PowerBook G4.
It'll go between No Batteries Available and Calculating....until full.
Is this a sign of a dying battery or faulty computer? I've had the battery for nearly two years. Also when I press the button on the battery, all the little green lights appear.
Thanks.

How many cycles do you have on your battery and what does it show for it's full charge capacity? Click blue apple, about this mac, more info, and power, see battery information.
You might try resetting your power management unit (PMU), per this Apple note: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

In Terminal use the following to evaluate battery:
ioreg -wo -l|grep Capacity. It will show cycle count, absolute maximum capacity, present capacity and current charge.

Thank you for the information. Using both methods, here's the battery info.
Is it time for a new battery?
Thanks!

So here's the odd thing .... Apple says that a properly maintained battery should retain 80% of it's charge after 300 cycles. Yours has more cycles, yet the capacity is not far off a new battery. I'd expect to see a capacity around 3500 or lower with your cycle count.
One of the characteristics of a dying lithium battery are odd counts in the battery status, ie, battery capacity might show 22530 versus approx. 4400 for a new battery. Your counts aren't wacky like that, but they are suspect. Usually, a failing battery will also get to a certain point, and the battery power will unexpectedly drop to zero - I don't recall you mentioning that as an issue too.

I'm seeing a lot of "No Batteries Available and Calculating....until full".
I really don't know what to make of it.
