I think I fixed the problem... any comments are welcome. I fixed the file

Keynote.app/Contents/Resources/Animations/
K2LinkBackSupport.sfxplugin/Contents/MacOS/K2LinkBackSupport

by changing the source code and recompiling. How can I attach I file in this forum? I put it here because I was not able to do differently..

http://mail.sns.it/~a.alberti/K2LinkBackSupport

I solved the problem by moving a portion of code inside a new function which I called bugfix( something.. ). Maybe the problem is something related to APE lite?
I did it after many unsuccessful trials, but finally it seems working.

It's true that you can copy back any dropped latex image in latexit but when you change it and you would like to update directly in iwork, then it doesn't work and you have to copy again and reposition and resize...

So I guess that LinkBack is much more practical and cannot be worked around simply in the way you said.

I wait for your comments.

I forgot to say that the file I sent you is the intel version..
I never tried the PPC version, but I guess it works as well.

I put it here:
http://mail.sns.it/~a.alberti/K2LinkBackSupportPPC

but remember to change the name removing "PPC" when you substitute your existing
bugged file.

First: this bug is really treacherous, because it only affects the "Saved" file. The copy in memory and on your screen is still perfect, giving a false feeling of trust, and you only get aware of the problem when you re"Open" the "Saved" file, usually for your presentation. And it is then too late!!! (just had it yesterday... bless "Export as pdf..."!)

I confirm the LinkBack Plugin connection: I thought I had removed the problem by switching from test version to registered version of Keynote 4. And all went well, until I reinstalled the LinkBack Plugin. I then moved the directories

Keynote/Contents/Frameworks/LinkBack.framework
Keynote/Contents/Resources/Animations/K2LinkBackSupport.sfxplugin

out of Keynote.app, and the problem disappears for me.

I will try the fix posted here next, and report.

The modified LinkBack file posted by Andrea82 solved this problem for me.

I, too, experienced the problem of grouped objects (text and shapes) moving after saving and restoring. Like many people here, I use Keynote '08 with LinkBack and LaTeXiT 1.14.4.

In addition, the fix also seems to correct another Keynote '08 problem which would report the following error whenever saving a file containing an curved shape or polygon:
"Export Warning - Some shapes aren’t supported in the chosen file format. A curved or polygonal shape was made uneditable. (Slides: 11, 12)"
That error is described here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1123300

Thanks Andrea82 for making LinkBack useable again.

Today I got the moving after save bug again, it seems like the upgrade to Leopard made the bug reappear. I did not do anything to my Keynote installation.

Do you still have LinkBack installed?

Yes, I still have linkback installed with the fix posted by Andrea82.
The fix seems to work partly as the simple test proposed by jamessuthe does not explode the group anymore.
But on a more complicated presentations the slides where I had grouped graphical elements had exploded with half of the grouped items appearing outside the frame of the slide after I reopened the file.

I suspect that this is due to the upgrade to Mac OSX 10.5, because the bug never appeared between the moment I installed the fix and the moment I upgraded the OS.
How this is linked to Keynote and linkback I have no idea...

My guess is that Linkback tinkers with some fairly low-level OS code in order to enable its functionality, and that the OS side has changed in Leopard. To be fair, the misbehaviour of Linkback isn't Apple's fault, and while I don't know much about the software, my guess would be that the way it accomplishes its functionality is not supported by Apple. This looks like a problem similar to the Leopard install issues around Unsanity's APE, which uses nonstandard ways of modifying the OS.

And, considering Linkback hasn't been updated in YEARS, it's surprising that it works at all.
