Well this is just unacceptable, is there a way to uninstall the 10.5.2 update? I am probably asking for a lot, but how do you break WIFI capabilities for XX amount of routers?

It seems like the software we all purchases for $2.99 for wireless N capabilities, might have issues with the new update. Just a thought

Just to be clear, i have never had any issues with my router until this update so there are no internal compatibility issues here, its apple software.

I've mentioned this before in several threads, but just because issues begin when a software update is installed doesn't mean the issues are Apple's fault.
The issues could very well be bugs in various router manufacturer's firmware that are simply exposed by the software update.
It's hard to ascribe fault without knowing the precise issues involved.

It seems like this has been a problem for such a long time. I know many people have had Airport connectivity issues since 10.4.10--you would think Apple would have it sorted out by now (or at least have some official document on the topic!).
Personally, I bought a MacBook with Leopard factory installed around mid-January. I've had intermittent connections, dns resolution issues, timeouts and slow connection speeds in multiple locations and routers. I use a Linksys WRTS54GS v.4 running in 802.11g at home, but I have the same problems with the wireless at school (UCLA--not exactly a small campus) and at dozens of coffee shops in LA.
When I updated to 10.5.2 I had 24 hours of great, consistent wireless. But when I opened up my machine this morning it started having fits again.
I really am curious as to how many users are actually having persistent issues...

I just talked to Applecare specialist department on the issue.
1. They have no idea how to fix it or what they did.
2. They are having me do trivial things like "reset" and "diagnose".
3. They said the only way to fix the problem is to do a system archive and restore.

Has anyone tried reinstalling the update from the Combo package (aka the 384 MB one)??? I am going to try that when I get home as a last ditch effort.
If we go the route of archiving and reinstalling the OS. Does this mean i'll lose all of my data on my machine? What is the best process for reinstalling/restoring in this particular instance?

Greetings,
If you install the 10.5.2 combo update, it will fix a lot of issues with some routers. Look on the Support > Downloads site and in there you can read about what the update fixes. There is a link that shows what WiFi routers have been added to the ones that already work.
Not all routers will work, and likely never will, if they won't at the current time and they are of the cheapie no-name variety. It's mostly going to be a Airport card setup or a WiFi router setup regardless if it worked with Tiger, or not.
I have yet to see any issues with WiFi, using a variety of equipment, that I couldn't configure to work, and most were a no-brainer. People could be having issues with interference instead of their Airport or router.
When having many issues with a piece of equipment or service, then go back to square one with the defaults and start over. Harping on the fact that a piece of equipment worked with Tiger, isn't going to get anyone anywhere - Leopard is more exacting that Tiger was and will not suffer for inexact specs.
Good Luck Folks - Cheers,
M.

My Macbook Pro worked perfectly until the 10.5.2 update. Now, I cannot wirelessly connect the internet. Same problems as mentioned. I installed through Software Update. Will try the combo. I too am using a Westell from Verizon. There is no reason that this worked and now thanks to the update it no longer works. No reason that a router is compatible and then just like that it is not.

Well, if you need to reinstall the OS, here is a great, simple article on the process:

It is a shame to even come to this, but if the combo updater does not work, i'll be updating my status from my iphone again.
