Windows Stuttering?

I've installed iTunes 5 and then 5.01 today and every 10 or 15 minutes the machine seems to work very hard in the background (spinning cd shows up adjacent to pointer) and other applications will stutter particularly music playing in iTunes or in Winamp will stutter. Anyone experienced anything like this or have any suggestions?
Thank you kindly.

Wow, I thought I was the only one with this problem. I've been very angry at this because it seems as though I can no longer play music on my system. It has also been making the rest of my system slow down a lot as evidenced by cursor lockup and slowly opening programs. Once again, I'm glad that I'm not alone. As for suggestions into fixing this. I have no clue. I have done clean installs of iTunes, Quicktime, and my audio drivers. That's when I realized it was something more than those. A quick antivirus scan shows nothing except for some already quarantined trojans in my junk email folder, but that was it. I'm at a total loss as to what to here as it is barring me from listening to music as well as using my system to its potential.

Hi there,
I am experiencing a similar problem as well. Ever since I installed the updates, the music stutters and jerks whenever there are 'loading' procedures going on. It also jerks whenever I minimise the player so I have to keep it open as a miniplayer all the time. No solutions and I have actually posted this problem up. Someone have suggested to reinstall the iTunes but I have tried that and it does not work for me.

I'm having the same problem. After playing itunes for 10-20 minutes, severe stuttering. I pause and play the current tract to clear up the problem, but it recurs after a few minutes. very annoying. I recently upgraded my itunes to 5.0.1.4, but still have the problem.

hi grinch99!
hmmm. okay, let's have a look at your CPU usage on the task manager. is it spiking unusually at these times?
also, let's try a "watch and wait" at the applications or processes tab. do any applications or processes show up when the problem occurs?
love, b

Hey, I have this problem as well and I could provide some useful information. Since the problem started I have had my Task Manager open all the time looking at CPU Usage. Whenever I experience the slowdowns, CPU Usage spikes to 100%. I've also done the watch and wait of processes tab and nothing unusual pops up. Only thing pushing 100% usage is the System Idle Process. Hope that helps.

hi Juancarlos!
hmmmmm. okay, let's try doing some spring cleaning and maintenance.
download fresh definitions and conduct vigorous virus and spyware scans. do a disk cleanup, run your favorite disk checking/repair utility. do a disk defrag. reboot.
any improvement?
love, b

I performed a disk cleanup and defragged my drive. Worked for a few minutes and boom, skip after skip while playing music. I am really getting frustrated over this. Going to perform a spyware search and I guess I'll run another antivirus search overnight to see if it picks anything up.
Any additional help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for bumping and networking b. I'm off the charts frustrated at this point. Cleaned, scanned, cwshredder, hijackthis, spybot, norton, everything I could think of. Windows is clean. This has gotta be the problem, but I'm stunned that it is an Apple product causing it. Do we think removal of iTunes and re-install to 4.something would help?
Thanks again.

After several months of this stuttering problem I decided to do some research to see if anyone has had this problem as well. This is a terribly annoying problem. I can't just leave my iTunes running anymore. It needs to be baby-sat so I can pause and un-pause the player. I look forward to someone solving this one. By the way, this is my first post. Pretty new to this style forum.
