WiFi Problems - WORKING SOLUTION
Posted: Aug 13, 2008 12:03 AM

Hi,

as everyone here i also has a problems with dropped / disconnected WiFi after sending big files over the network (with Mac Book AIR and Windows XP in Boot Camp 2.1 - but i think this will work on other mac's with broadcom WiFi card). WiFi works for normal web browsing, but when i want to backup some files to my network drive (NAS) the WiFi connection was droped after few minutes, so i can't backup files properly.

I found a solution on this topis:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1478484&tstart=120

but this was for Windows Vista and i have a Windows XP.

But on www.hp.com there is also drivers for Windows XP on following page:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3650971&dlc=en#

I download drivers from this page:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39501-40000/sp39912.exe

and follow the instructions from original topic:

1. Execute sp39912.exe, it will be extracted do c:\SWSetup\sp39912 or other destination you select

2. Do not run the setup from that location!!!

3. Click on Start->Settings->Control Panel then on System, go to tab Hardware and then click on Device Manager button

4. Open the Network adapters and right click on Broadcom Wireless Adapter and choose Update driver.

5. If the dialog ask if you want to connect to Windows Update select No, not this time and click on Next

6. Select Install from a list or specified location (Advanced) and click Next

7. Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install and click Next.

8. On the dialog box there is Have Disk button, click on it and then click Browse button. Navigate to c:\SWSetup\sp39912 (or the location where you extract the driver). Pick "Broadcom 4321AG 802.11a/b/g/draft-n".

9. Click OK and restart the computer.

This works perfectly to me, now the WiFi is much faster than before and i don't have a problems with dropped connection.

I'm not responsible for any damage you do using this post ;-)

Does not completely do the trick for me, since although it seems to work against the lockup on disable 'feature', now i can not see one of my 2 access points . (both WAP54G linksys models of which the version 2 is not recognised and the version 3 is)
So I had to reinstall the bootcamp crappy driver, since crap wireless is still better then no wireless.

The driver link you provided is NOT for a wireless N card. It only supports a/b/g
Thats probably why it didnt work on the previous posters router, he may have his router set for N only.

Disabling the WCZ of Windows XP (http://paininthetech.com/2005/10/25/disable-wireless-zero-configuration-in-windows-xp/)
and using the Broadcom Wireless utility (http://www.station-drivers.com/telechargement/broadcom/BCM40100.exe) helped to make my w-lan connection more stabel.
DON“T forget : At first install the Broadcom W-Lan utility, then update the driver its mentioned at the top! At least there is no guarantee at all!

Ok Im replying to this board mainly because everyone seems to have the same type of router as I do. I have the Broadcom 802.11n. My only problem is that I can't get any type of web pages, I have the "No Connection"page showing. However I am connected to my wireless router at around 11 Mbps.I have 3 other roomates which is why i believe It has a low MBps. I have both my IP address and Sub mask (I think thats what it is called) both running fine. The only thing I can't get is my DNS Server. I went to the broadcom website to download the manual, to see what I can find. I found what seems to be the DNS Server address, but when i put it in no luck. I updated Boot Camp to 2.1, but yet have upgraded to service pack 3, I asked my roomate who is the admin, but he doesn't know what to do. I should point out that my mac side is working perfectly.

Please Someone Help Me This Is Driving Me Nuts !

Thanx to anyone who responds.

I just wanted to confirm this fix. I had been losing connection only on my Windows XP-32 bootcamp partition (leopard was fine). After following these steps, I have successfully stayed connected for the last 12 hours.

I've been having unsolvable random disconnects under Windows XP Professional SP3 too. It has bugged me for over 5 months since I first got my Macbook Pro.

Anyway, I just downloaded and installed the drivers. It's too early to say whether or not it fixes my disconnect problem, but I can say that it sure as **** boosted my signal strength. When surfing from my room, I used to only get signal strengths of 'Poor' or 'Low' or 'Good' at best. Now my singal strength constantly stays at 'Very Good'.

I'm highly optimistic about the solution posted here. =]

Your solution appears to have worked just fine for me - two days of playing Guild Wars and no more wireless dropouts yet! Thank you very much!

solution kind of worked. my linksys router is only g.
Problem is that every time i start up, it would not connect automatically to the wireless. i have to use advanced setting, remove the wireless connection, then set it up again for the computer to connect. once connected, it stays connected.
it is frustrating!
atlas, switching from pc to mac has some hiccups for me...

Wanted to let you know this worked great! Also something I noticed.
My ping (cmd > ping www.google.com) dropped from 350 avg. to 35 avg. internet page responsiveness has drastically increased, and there is no more stuttering with the connection (it would cut in/out some pages would load and others wouldnt).

I am so glad you found this, i tried dell's oem page but gave up ... needless to say you are a god

This is simply AMAZING!!! It worked like a charm and everything is going very good. Back then sometimes it wouldn't cut at all sometimes for days it would cut alot when I download big files or network big files. Now it's running EXTREMELY smooth. I downloaded a big college project that was 8.1 GB split into 15 files all together and nothing cut. Back before this driver update it was like a 80% chance to cut. Also I noticed better performance and actually the wireless picked up 2 more networks I have never saw before and now I always see them.

BIGGGgG thanks!

PS : Apple should learn from HP and create BETTER drivers rather than ignore all the problems the users are having on Windows.

I had to use the second driver down on that list (4322) for this fix to work, but it works!

Which is great, because I was running out of original curses to mutter whenever Windows "lost" my wireless connection. It never said it lost it, but web browsers frequently said that a specified page couldn't be found.

Thank you for this fix! I hope Apple address this soon; it seems stupid to not provide better wireless drivers.

Spoke too soon. It worked well for a bit, and now my wi-fi is back to its old shenanigans. Windows does not ever report losing my wireless network connection, but various browsers will act as though a site cannot be found, even after having loaded a few pages of it first.

Has anyone had better luck with the ethernet port driver? I tried plugging in today and that seemed even worse than the wi-fi (which I disabled hoping to force the built-in to kick in).
