Functionality ???

I'm not getting what new functionality iWork.com adds that does not exist with emailing your document to others (in any variety of formats) or using your public folder.

Dude after I ignored this, I read that there were 30 views other than my 31st. 30 people just ignored you because you obviously haven't tried it or watched the video on sharing with iwork.com.

Go check it out is the answer, it is quite incredible.

Other than the general bugginess and the lack of a log out button...

you have to login to access the document? I havent tried emailing to someone other than myself, but i am not giving out my me.com password to test it.

But it will be great, it will be incredibly beneficial to teachers. Students can comment (question) on the documents the teacher posts, and the teacher has a list of documents that have unread comments. BOOM instant feedback.

you could email the document to someone but if you have a group of people collaborating, they can all go add comments any time and it's live. prove to me your email is greater by sending out several copies for each person. and more copies with different versions. oh and one last edit to who ever has the final, etc...

And as documents grow larger, it is not possible to send them as email-attachments.

Public Folder function allows large documents to be downloaded. There are a number of posts on Mac Rumors raising questions along the same lines - I guess time will tell.

1) I don't need to send to 20 other people, then get 20 mails back and read through those 20 mails. At the same time, each of those 20 has no idea what the other 19 are thinking and thus means there will be many overlapped ideas in those 20 mails I have to go through.

2) I don't need to let people access my public folder, which also means I don't have to keep my computer on all the time. Be green, switch things off whenever you can.

3) The whole thing actually goes real time: someone adds a comment, everyone sharing that doc can see it instantly and reply to it instantly as well. It's almost like an irc chat room.

There's no edit function but I personally don't like having other people messing my writings. I want ideas and inspirations but please don't delete my words or add things to it; Nor do I want to read a documents with strike-through words and blue words and red words... Maybe it's just me.

I have a great solution for you Joanna.

Don't get the service.

This will save you from all of these great functions that may work fantastically for other people but are not applicable to you.

I sometimes wonder if people whining about this stuff somehow believe the applications were supposed to be custom made for them. Simply put.... if you don't need it or don't want it.....don't buy it.

Danny... I think Joanna instead is very much FOR this, not against it. Have you really read her reply and thought about it?

But you're right about not whining about services you don't need. I guess, it's just, that people are so inclined to seeing great things and new products from Apple, that they may feel disappointed easily.

The responses did clarify what some see as the functionality added by this. I guess the "utility" is something that will be judged by each per their needs.

Getting a review by 20 or more people - OMG - forget iWork.com - you need Valium :-)

I've used it last night - I'll try it on some documents I'm developing and see what the value/utility is for me.

Thanks for the input.

My sincere apologies to Joanna. I actually mistook her post as mocking the functions she did not need. I have found an amazing level of whining in this discussion group.... a phenomenon that completely baffles me.

I realize after re-reading what she wrote that she was actually praising the things she did not have to do now with the new functionality of iwork.com. Again I apologize for my response to her.

I do hope at some point I see a diminished level of people making demands of what they want, slamming these products, and outright whining. As a former PC user, I find the Apple realm to be amazing and incredibly functional. It really angers me to see all of these juvenile discussions for products that are, in comparison, reasonably priced and very well made.

I would like that the notes, which people added sync back to iWork on your Mac.

Or that you can work on 1 file with other people via iWork.com

Few examples which will improve the service so much !
