Even better way to fix the problem temporarily is to sleep the display only by pressing control + shift + eject.
Aside from the flicker problem, I also see pulse like noise some times. This is small compared to other problems but noticeable on darker images. Experiencing slower FPS on some Full-HD movie playback too. I hope Apple can solve these problems quickly.

I am seeing a similar issue: on login screen, significant horizontal flicker in unlit area of screen. No distortion seen on login block. After login, occasional horizontal flicker at random locations on screen--appears 4-8 inches in length and lasts a few milliseconds.
Hope Apple can correct soon.

I notice today that the AMDPDLDVIA has gone to "Ships in 24 h."
I ordered mine in October, got it on December 18, but was away and didn't play with it until December 29. I had all the problems listed and was annoyed. I returned it to Apple on December 30. My account still said earlier today that the shipment would go out in 1 to 2 weeks. I had to call 800-MYAPPLE to get them to re-set the shipment so it would be first out. Why, when mine has been on order since October, should someone who orders today get it faster than me?!
Oh well.
I suspect the replacement will be just as bad. Not sure what I will do then.

Initial response from Apple engineering came today. According to them, only the Apple 30in Cinema Display is supported by this adapter.
There needs to be more noise for Apple to really take notice and correct this problem.

If this is true, this is really messed up; particularly that it wasn't made very explicit that any model other than Apple's isn't supported for over 24 inches.
I bought a new laptop to get work done, but this problem is a MAJOR pain in my @$$.

That's absolutely untrue. The overview of the product on the Apple web site at http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571 says
Use the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter to connect your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air to a 30-inch display that includes a DVI connector, such as the 30-inch Apple Cinema Display HD, and enjoy the ultimate widescreen canvas with a resolution of 2560 by 1600 pixels.
Compatible only with MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air with Mini DisplayPort and Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later.
It calls out the Apple Cinema Display HD as an example of a 30-inch display that includes a DVI connector, but says nothing about that being the only such display that is supported. It also specifically lists the computer models it works with, so if it was only intended to work with the Apple Cinema Display I would expect they would have been explicit about that too.
Thousands of people currently use third-party 30" displays with the previous generation of MacBook Pros, so it would be really strange for them to take such a giant leap backwards.
I've spoken to an Apple product specialist several times, and through him to engineering, about my experiences with this adapter and a Samsung 30" display. The only time they brought up the need for an Apple Cinema Display was when we discussed the lack of power from the USB pass-through port on the adapter. Since the adapter itself chews up almost all the power from the MacBook Pro's USB port, you can't plug any non-powered peripherals or hubs into it (even an Apple keyboard and mouse won't work). The hub in the Cinema Display is powered, so they recommended using it. Instead I spent another $20 on a Belkin powered hub, and now my keyboard and mouse work fine.
Other than in regard to the USB power issue, which is minor compared to the visual problems, nobody at Apple has ever suggested to me that I could only use this adapter with an Apple display.

I'm using this with a macbook and a samsung 305T. The image shift occurs 1-2 times a day. I also get the fuzzy screen. I'm starting to get very irritated about it.

If anyone ever gets this answer again: The problem also happens with Apple Cinema Displays, at least the ones in our office.

Apple got back to me again today and claims that the adapter is only supported by the 30" apple cinema display. Engineering said that it was designed that way and when I pointed out that other users are posting about having problems with the Apple 30" display also they said that they must not have it hooked up properly. They even tried to not give me a refund claiming it was my fault for ordering an incompatible adapter! They then transferred me to a sales lady who was actually laughing at me for not using an Apple monitor and trying to get me to purchase an Apple monitor! Now they are 'letting' me ship back the adapter and will give a refund.
I think this is my last deal with Apple and will most likely be listing the rest of my Apple equipment on eBay tonight. This company cares about selling quantity now and the old school quality of Apple products is drifting away, unfortunately.

I have to take this with a grain of salt. I've talked to applecare techs and customer service reps tons of times over the last 15 years and never have they ever treated me with disrespect.

Same issue using Samsung 305T and new MBP unibody
Issue did not occur with previous MBP
Are there any real solutions that work 100% of the time out there?

I've been running all day without the issue with my Dell 3007WFP display.
1. I disconnected my wireless keyboard adapter and am not plugging in the display's USB hub.
2. I connected an Apple keyboard directly to the MacBook Pro 15" and plugged my wireless Logitech MX Revolution adapter into the keyboard.
So far, I have not experienced the issue at all with the 9400M graphics chipset. I tried switching over to the 9600M chipset where the problem quickly kicked in.
So for now, I'm going to try running my setup like this to hopefully avoid the problem.
