Bad cd drive How can I put cd's on external Hard drive

I have an Indigo 366mhz, 10gig hd, with firewire running OS Tiger that has a bad cd drive (only works 50% of the time now). Here is my question we have some games that my daughter likes to play but it needs the cd for support is there a way to put the cd onto the hard drive or my external firewire 60 gig hard drive so that the game would see it as a cd and run like it should? I was hoping to avoid taking apart the ibook to replace the cd drive. Thank you, Jean

it depends on the game. some may not work.

but what you can try is this: put the disk into a working mac, open disk utility.

then... "To create an image file, launch Disk Utility and select File: New: Disk Image From Folder (or disk / partition). In the window that appears, navigate to the desired folder and then click on Image. Give the image file a name, and click on Save when prompted."

in the save prompt, select CD/DVD as the format from the dropdown list. when finished copy to the external. all you should have to do id double click on the files to "mount" the virtual CD & run the game.
