I've done the factory restore and upgrade. Rebuilt the iTunes library. ATV is still not being recognized on the PPC G-5. The new 27' iMac is receiving just fine. About to give up and move the G-Rade2 to the iMac and go from there.

That's a different problem. Your idea to move on is a good one, though. No reason to fight gremlins when encountering such problems. I assume you are running iTunes .9.0.2 on the PPC.

Yes, iTunes on the PPC has been updated as well. I have had some minor network issues in the past between the ATV and PPC G-5 and was able to remedy quickly. This time the connection between is completely lost. Reboot, restart, repair permissions, rebuild lib, etc.. nothing is working. Any word from Apple on this issue?

So, it has been syncing since Sunday afternoon (it's now Tuesday morning) and its about a third of the way through - - yippee!
The nice thing about this is that it reminds me of the dial up days. It's like I have a 56k modem going.

hey tegler, I bought one of these, CAT 6 500MHz UTP 50FT Ethernet Cable - Black$5.92, just for this type of situation. It is perfect for the once in a while large sync of data with atv, for less than $6. I don't know if I can name the website retailer of this cable, with regards to TOS. But if I can, someone please let me know. The "CAT" means "catagory". Very high quality cable. 50 ft would fit your situation nicely!

You can provide a link to the manufacturers website providing you don't receive a benefit for doing so. Even if you do, you would be merely required to add a disclaimer to say you receive a benefit from doing so.

Not suprising, Apple themselves have not directly addressed ANY of these issues as of yet, and one is wondering of course WHY if not WHEN, as we sit and scratch our heads and wonder, priorities?? Apple as a company, has set it's goal to bolster it's survival on "Potential Feasibility", not actual reality of Product Worthiness. This of course, whether there is an IDEAL Product Line ready to exploit, or just feed on the notion until it presents itself. How to make it work (public used as guinea pigs) and/or General Product Functionality, how to make it better than the rest, ie.)They let the people figure that out, trickle out minor fixes and bankroll they major revisions as a breakthrough. They bank off the general consensus, ingenuity vs gulibility. And it has worked, this is a prime example.
Apple will release a major AppleTV upgrade, Charge us $9.99 or possibly $15.99 and call it a Broadband Television Hybrid Fusion AppleView, AppleSnapple, AppleHD, or some B.S. and we will go "wow" and they will say "Thanks little people for your stupidity for use for our profit" and thumb there nose and move on....it's how they work, and how we follow the pathetic bread crumbs or our little boring worldk where nothing makes us happy...
Read a book people...geez!!

Has this crap been fixed yet? I recall Apple pulled this junk on the last iTunes and Apple TV "updates". It broke my apple sync for hours while I had to dump it back to factory to get it to work.
Had they told us that they would intentionally break the system with EVERY update, would people even buy it? I'm getting the Microsoft vibe at this point....

Problem apparently solved. I followed another thread titled, "HDMI switching screwed up now ?". I did the tv resolution change to 720p. Now, ATV is behaving normally. Still scratching my head over this one. I had been on a resolution setting of 1080i, my televisions max capabilities.
Now that I'm on 720p, I can change HDMI sources, come back to ATV, and it appears on the television, where before, the ATV would freeze up as soon as I changed to a different HDMI source.

Interesting. I had mine set to 1080P. I reset mine on 720P on version 2.2 (factory restore) and am now upgrading again to 3.0. Will update as I go. Crossing fingers....

I have a massive music library on Windows Media Center PC (1TB Raid HDD) with iTunes 9.0.2.25. I use Apple TV (40GB) in streaming mode to play the music and home videos over a hard wired 1Gbps Ethernet link.
All this while every thing was working fine until I applied the latest update on ATV, last week. Most of the time the ATV freezes and reboots. ATV seems to freak out every time I go to My Music and choose Albums. First the menus simply freeze and then even if it start playing an album, after some time the ATV freezes and reboots. Every time the ATV reboots, it asks me to restore or run diagnostics.
I have done a factory restore to go back to working condition for now. Any other ideas?

Thanks, but no thanks. I have kids and don't need a cat 6 wire running through my house.
I bought this machine because it was supposed to "just work."
Fail. (the machine - not you).
