Midi out question for a newbie

Forgive my naive question but I just spent the last 2 hours trying to figure out how I could get garage band to output midi files via my usb cable to midi on my alesis qs8. I did a search and found out that the reason i could not get this to work is because garage band will not do it.
So my question is simple: What S/W can I use to play a midi file on my macbook pro that will output it via my midi cable to my qs8? Freeware is always preferred.
Thanks in advance!

(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)

Thanks. Can this S/W take a .mid file and play it or does it have to connect via garage band? My goal is to play .mid files that I have downloaded and played by my qs8.

i've never used it, so i don't know how many tracks it can be used on at the same time. i wouldn't have very high hopes, it may transmit on only a single channel, but it's worth trying.
