Trackpad Problems

Just got a brand new Hi-Res G4 17" Powerbook. The trackpad is flaky at best. It goes from working perfectly to not working at all. The top half of the trackpad works but the bottom half doesn't. Sometimes the bottom half works and that top half doesn't. The palm on the trackpad always resets it so I don't think it's a hardware problem. I took it to the apple store here and they said that they could replace the top plate. This thing is three days old. I tried to get a replacement but because I purchased it at MacMall, Apple would not replace it and MacMall said that they will not replace it but they would be happy to fix it. My question is this. Should I have the Apple Store replace my top plate or should I just wait and see what happens? After reading numerous posts on the web I see that this has been a problem since the beginning of the year. Everything else works great. I have 1.5G of ram and the airport has not crapped out once. Should i deal with it or take my chances with repairing it?

Apple is offereing to replace the trackpad? Uh, run, don't walk, back to the store and get it replaced. Why on earth would you try to "live with" something that's so apparently not working correctly?

Just have Apple replace the top case and be done with it. (You can also call AppleCare at 800.275.2273 in the US, and arrange for them to pick up your PB. This kind of repair can usually be done immediately, and they'll overnight your machine back to you. Much easier than waiting in line at the Apple Store if you ask me.)
Good luck.
