Not with the standard screen, of course, but while mucking around in Ubuntu linux, I found that the video card in my 466 clamshell (don't know about older ones) supports 1024x768 as a max resolution. The reason it doesn't show up as an option in os x is because the monitor itself is only 800x600.
So... a new goal for clamshell hackers: are there any LCD displays with the same pinout as the stock display?
The ramifications for clamshell users if this works out would be huge: the screen is the one shortcoming of the laptop (not counting speed, etc., but I mean it has been the problem even since it first came out).

I knew there was a reason I should be mucking around in Linux
Thanks Chris - now I've got something else to add to my list of things to do.

See if the input cables for the monitor are the same as the 12inch White iBook G3. If so, there is your fix.

In all hopefulness, the pinout will be the same, and the bracketing, etc., making it a drop in replacement.
Unfortunately, I don't have a snow iBook kicking around, nor any money to spend on a screen that may not work. If anyone here is feeling daring, and has both a clamshell and snow g3, (and experience modding laptops), you should try it out. It would be an awesome mod, and definately worthy of a page on macmod.

The reason that the 466 MHz can support 1024x768 id because it has 8 MB of video ram. I have an original 300 MHz with 4 MB of VRAM and have tried in ubuntu and debain to get it to 1024x768 but there is not enough VRAM. As for using a different display even if the pin configuration is the same the output power and the timing is not necessarily the same. But if I had a 466 MHz I would definitely look for the display of a snow and try it.
