Create your own Quickpicks solution (or at least a start)

To create your own quickpick you need six folders and three files and they are:

Package Name (folder)
-Contents (folder)
--Versions (folder)
---Version Number (folder)
----Resources (folder)
-----DefinitionPlist.strings (file)
-----English.lproj (folder)
------InfoPlist.strings (file)
------locversion.plist (file)

"Package Name" is just a folder with the extension ".quickpick" and the folder icon turns into a quickpick icon. The folders 'Contents', 'Versions', 'Resources', and 'English.lproj' need to be those names, but 'Version Number' is the version number (i.e. "1.0"). Now for the files:

locversion.plist - From what I can tell this file is used to set the localization

InfoPlist.strings - This file has the name and description of the quickpick which is what you see in the quickpicks tab

DefinitionPlist.strings - This is the file where you set the path (pattern) of the files you want to back up and also the file type (qualifier).

The easiest way to get started is to copy some of the quickpicks into your desktop and use the Property List Editor to open the files and look at them. I was able to alter the com.apple.iTunes.PurchasedMusic.quickpick to only backup video files, but I was not able to just back up the MusicVideos.

I just learned how to do this a few hours ago so I hope I have given enough information for people to start making/modifying their own quickpicks.

Hi Thomas -
This sounds like I want to do but I think it's beyond me :(

I want to create a QuickPick that backs up all .rtf files (I'm using Nisus Writer Express, not Word and that's the default file format). If you can spell this out for me in more detail, I'd be grateful.

Or has anybody out there done this already who can post the files to share?

Thanks!
Denise

Sorry it has taken me so long to answer your post. I have looked at the Pages and Safari quickpicks and I have a pretty good idea what to do, but it might not be perfect, meaning, you might get files ending in '.rtf' that you do not want.

Are your documents scattered throughout your home folder or are they in one, or a few, locations?
