Laptop volume inexplicably low after 10.4.7
Posted: Jul 3, 2006 1:55 PM

After 10.4.7 the base volume of my Macbook pro is quite low. It is well audible, but still lower than it was at full volume.

Is there a way to reset the laptop's base volume?

Thank you for your help.

Personally, I didn’t notice the difference since I always felt that the sound quality was rather limited and volume low. In any event, aside from the basic adjustment within preferences and keyboard shortcuts (F3/4/5), I don’t believe there is any other option to actually in crease the volume.

Thank you. But this is not the only issue I have since 10.4.7.

Perhaps it's time to use that Apple Care....

Personally I think anyting under 4 bars is too low on my MBP and always has been. Either way if you have had multiple problems since 10.4.7 try repairing permissions and the re-apply the update using the Combo Updater instead of the Delta.

Oddly enough, the first thing I thought after the update was that the volume had gone down - but then playing a few things at max volume I decided I'm possibly imagining it.

Might be an idea to ask Apple if the update changed the sound levels.

I did that. No changes. Again, it's not that the MBP is mute. But definitely not at its max insofaer as volume is concerned.

I thought this too... but then compared to a 12 inch powerbook without a single flaw and the sounds are identical - I think we're just being too critical of these machines.

As for the original problem - I agree, call applecare - your volume should not have had a significant change with the update.

I found that it was quite low as well, but its actually apples attempts at a quick fix for the right speaker distortion problem.

Its the quickest way to fix it until they come up with a better solution.

Hope this helps,

Haven't found any fix yet. Apple may resolve it with the next update.

From maximum volume, down by four bars, it's almost as good as mute. Wonder whether it's related to this discussion?

Anyone with similar situation?
