I think thats another problem than the problem here described. When I do a trace-route I won't get further than the Tiscali network. If you get a site with your account is down. You can still reach .mac.

Here is a trace-route
It stops with the suspected Level 3 Communications

"Cogent Communications and Level 3 Communications are in a standoff after Level 3 pulled the plug on shared Internet traffic from Cogent"

Traceroute has started ...

traceroute to mac.com (17.250.248.32), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets

Yes - As the subject is '.mac down' - I just made the point that I cannot access .mac mail either direct via web mail or via mail.

It's ironic that when i phoned Wanadoo/Orange they told me: "it must be an Apple problem, why don't you contact them?"

/sigh

All's good now after a router-reboot (which didn't work yesterday, by the way)

Good luck to the Tiscali folk out there

Problems with Wanadoo/Orange are documented in these and other forums extending back at least as far as early April. The response you received from them is approximately the same as ones they used earlier. The fix you used is one of the same ones used back then.

.Mac has been unavailable for me from about 9am to now (12:45 pm). My other POP mail accounts work fine, so I know it's not an ISP problem. My wife's .Mac account is unavailable as well, so it's not an account issue.

I'm in Ireland and having similar problems to everyone else: can't access .Mac email from Mail.app or web. Software update seems to work, however.

A traceroute to www.mac.com shows that it stalls at Level 3, so I assume it is nothing to do with my ISP and everything to do with this silly "standoff" linked to above.

so i called apple support which was futile... they suggested GET THIS.. that i get a free yahoo or g mail account... DUH.,. i persisted and they finally put me though to a "SPECIALIST" who said. hey all the lights are green and i said FOLLOW THIS DISCUSSION thread.. OH he said.. Ill send a note to .mac but they only deal with customer support via the web.. and email. DUH so catch 22... no email.. no answer... no idea when...

HE did however agree to send an alert to them ( .mac) that some of us are having mail problems...
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR best not to make this into a commerical.. LOL
