An Unusually Bad Experience

I just bought one of the new Airport Extremes (802.11n) today and am having a very bad experience. For starters, the new Airport Utility is crashing all the time on my iBook. Second, I am having trouble getting a few devices in my house to recognize the network I have created (Specifically the Xbox 360). Third, I cannot establish a WDS connection between my old Airport Extreme and the new one. I am not very familiar with creating and setting up complex wireless networks, but I didn't have nearly as much trouble with the old one. Any help would be appreciated.

I had a sort of similar problem.
I got the new Extreme today and wanted to add my old Extreme and Express as WDS clients (acting as bridges to TiVos).
After I setup the new Extreme, the old Airports didn't show up in the AirPort Utility program, so I wasn't sure how to add them to the network.
What I ended up doing was pressing the reset button on each of them for 5 seconds, waiting for them to finish rebooting, then refreshing the AirPort Utility program.
Both of the old Airports showed up. I clicked on the first one, chose "Connect to my current wireless network", and then followed the wizard. It took about 5 minutes total to get both of them configured and running.

Well I got the WDS working. Thank you for that, but now the main problem is getting my Xbox 360 to recognize the new network with it's wireless networking adaptor...
It will recognize both AirPorts in their factory settings, but if I change anything on the new one, my network suddenly disappears from the selection list on the 360. It is recognized by all the computers in the house. Any help with that...?

Ok I have found out some new information. The 360 will recognize the network if there is no network security applied, but as soon as I put passwork protection on the network, it disappears from the selection list. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Ehh, helpful enough. I never actually got it to work, but am using both my APXs to run various computers with various network cards of different types throughout the house.

When I had my network security set to "WPA2 Personal", the C2D MacBook Pros running in Boot Camp could not connect to the network.
Changing the security on the network to "WPA/WPA2 Personal" fixed that problem.
Wonder if that would help the 360?

I am having the same problem. My PlayStation 3 and Wii have no problem recognizing the network, but the 360 will not. Tried adding specific network since it was not listed, but that didn't work. Looks like the WPA2 security option was listed but when I tried to select it nothing happened. I am looking forward to other responses to see if there is a fix. This was not a problem until I added security.

Yeah, the XBOX 360 won't recognize any network with security, but it will for my old wireless router. This is a significant problem for me.

Yeah same here; this is also a big problem for me! I didn't plan on keeping two routers in my house, and was planning on selling the old APX I had...
I'm not exactly sure how this would be fixed... Firmware update?

Oh, and to the person who said something about changing it to "WPA/WPA2", I have tried even WEP... any type of security applied to the network makes it disappear from the 360..

Well, hate to tell you, but I think it's Microsoft's problem...
I just tried a PSP with WEP on and it worked correctly. Where even WEP on the XBox 360 in combo with the Airport Extreme 'N' didn't work.
Looks like it's wide open with Mac Address restrictions until it's fixed.
M$ shafts us again.

I called Xbox support and... they gave me usual spiel. They even politely told me that Apple's routers are not recommended for live ( I did correct the gal, since i have used my old base station with NO problems), and she did confess that other customers have too.
Interestingly enough, Apple is not the only one the 360 has problems with as Linksys and Dlink users are reporting issues too.
She told me that N routers "May" be addressed in the spring 07' dashboard update.
man this bites... I was hoping to pick up one of the new base stations ASAP. Out of curiosity has anybody tried wired access?

I would assume wired works. I can talk to 2 HP Printers that are on the AENs ethernet ports. Works like a dream. So, the 360 should work fine.

i was told by someone that the 360 adapter works on both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz channels, has anyone tried this new fangled dual band? or maybe just one or the other?
