Having a shared drive connected causes mac to hang during shutdown

I noticed recently that my mac would hang during shutdowns. I didn't make the connection right away but I've now found that if I dis-mount the connection to the shared drive on my airport extreme, it doesn't hang.
If the drive is mounted, it hangs all the time (I have to keep the power button pressed to shutdown).
Anybody else experienced this?

I have the same problem. MacBook Pro hangs on shutdown if AirPort Extreme-n USB disk is not dis-mounted first.
Although I have no solution for this problem, I trust Apple will address this obvious bug in a future software/firmware update.

Yes, I am experiencing the same problem. Apparently, a number of processes stop responding during logout. I checked my system logs, and found:
Mar 20 23:50:08 cinnamon /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started
Mar 20 23:50:10 cinnamon configd[70]: posting notification com.apple.system.config.network_change
Mar 20 23:50:10 cinnamon configd[70]: rtmsg: error writing to routing socket
Mar 20 23:50:10 cinnamon lookupd[538]: lookupd (version 369.6) starting - Tue Mar 20 23:50:10 2007

Mar 20 23:50:22 cinnamon diskarbitrationd[72]: ATSServer [133]:12303 not responding.
Mar 20 23:50:22 cinnamon diskarbitrationd[72]: coreservicesd [100]:11267 not responding.
Most annoying as the drives mounts automatically, I don't always think to unmount it before login out..

I'm experiencing the same problem but it is new to me now.
the AEBS worked like a charm until i changed it's configuration
the first configuration
it was used as the main router, pppoe connection and the name was "Base Station", ipv6 configuration was tunel
Now i have it configured as a brige with a static ip adress and the name is now "BaseStation" ( no spaces ) ipv6 is link-local only
and since i have done this configuration change my MacBook hangs on logout and shutdown,
I removed the drives from the base station and My MacBook does it's thing flawlessly. i tried disabeling appletalk, and re-enabling it no changes.

I have a suggestion that might help. Go to the Apple Icon, System Preferences, Network. Under the network screen select Options. Under the Options menu, make sure the button "Disconnect from wireless network when I log out" button is unchecked. That solved the problem for me.

Glad it worked. You should also know there is a softare bug that prevents Microsoft Office for Mac from saving on a Airport Extreme USB connected drive. If you need a work-around, contact me.

Has anyone noticed that making this change in the preferences makes the Airport connected drive more stable and not unmount? Since making this change I have not (yet) had a problem with my Air Drive. FWIW
