More information that might come in handy... my old keyboard was bluetooth...

There must be a way to redo the keyboard installation from scratch, but I've tried installing the software and rebooting twice... Keyboard map does show the new keys, so that's good, it's just those two functions don't work...

I was also having the same problem. I am also using a British keyboard. I downloaded the software around 4PM GMT and had an issue where some of the keys (Dashboard and Exposé) still wouldn't function on my eMac. When I tried it on my MacBook however everything was fine. I am sure the download was around 35MB then.

Later I went to download the file on another machine and the links were broken as you described. No sign of it anywhere in the downloads list.

Now when I check it's there, as it originally was. The only difference is that the download now appears to be 32.1MB in size... I wonder if a bug was fixed? Looks like it was a PPC (and possibly British keyboard) bug... I guess I will have to take a look at the new download on the eMac tomorrow.

well i just restarted and the main keys i was complaining about are working now. volume, brightness, etc.... but

the expose and dashboard key on the new keyboard don't work, and it won't even let me remap those keys in the keyboard shortcut menu... so my f3 and f4 key don't do anything...

I'm having exactly the same problem (i.e. all keyboard functions working, apart from expose and dashboard (F3 and F4)).

I'm using a British keyboard as are many others who seem to be having problems. I've downloaded and installed the software twice now, including the "new new" version that was posted after the initial one.

Looking forward to software version 1.1.1 for us unhappy UK users...

BrianH (and others).

This won't fix the problem, but I've confirmed that the F3 and F4 keys on my keyboard do actually work (i.e. as Function keys, not for expose and dashboard). Pressing Fn+F4 in MS Word pastes the contents of the clipboard. Fn+F3 initiates a search in some other windows programs.

So it's not a physical or manufacturing problem with the F3 and F4 keys, but definitely a software problem...

I agree with your experience that you can't use the keyboard settings of preferences to setup F3 and F4 shortcuts manually - the keys just don't register

Heh; my old keyboard was a bluetooth one, too. The new one is a wired one (couldn't stand not having a number pad!)

Can any of you report back on how does it feel to type on the new keyboard. Acceptable? Ergonomic? Painful? etc.?

yeah it's funny cause before i ran the keyboard update the f3 and f4 keys controlled the expose and dashboard, and all the other keys didn't work, now after the update it's opposite. i'm going to call Apple and see what they can tell me...

Conal-

I really like the way the keyboard feels. i like that it is lower too, so my hands stay flatter while typing. I personally really like it. go check one out if you can

Don't know if this will fix your problem, but I use a neat program to map all my F keys called Spark....nothing to lose:

try this worked for me, one you have installed the Keyboard Software Update 1.1)

1. go to your system preferences
2. select Dashboard & Expose
3. change the keyboard shortcuts for Expose & Dashboard to - (ie empty)
4. try your new keys
5. now you should be able to put back the keys in system preferences (i have mine set to F16, F17 F18 & F19)

i think the problem is that they had 2 keyboard maps for same acction (one F key & the new key map)

anyway this worked for me

It feels great to me. It's much easier on my wrists than the old keyboard as I don't need to bend as much. Typing is fast and easy, feels much like the MacBook only better. Takes a little getting used to as they keys are a little different in size and location (FN, Control, Option and Command especially), but it feels all round great.

Checking the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" check box in Keyboard System Preferences, then adding the keys in Exposé System Preferences manually seems to have worked for me on the eMac.

Funny how I had no issues on the Intel, but even the newer update didn't work on the G4... Hrm...

Cheers, Andy I've done as you said, but pressing f3 and f4 still does nothing. I'm sure I could set the keys to f16-19 but I think that would have worked anyway, and it's not really the keyboard working as advertised...

I didn't realise there were separate settings in the dashboard/exposé panel, though. I might see if I can work anything else out from that panel.
