ipod freezes after sync
Posted: Jun 22, 2007 9:38 PM

My ipod ALWAYS freezes after I sync it and try to play a podcast. A reset fixes it, but what a bother! If I try to play a podcast, it freezes halfway into the next screen.

Hi Robert,

Firstly, have you got the latest iPod Firmware version, 1.1.3

To find this, on your iPod goto the main menu>Settings>About

If you haven't, upgrade the firmware as this problem was fixed in firmware version 1.1.3

I also used to experience this problem until updating my iPod.
To update iPod, connect your iPod to your computer, and on the iPod summary screen in iTunes, click check for updates.

Hope this helps

Jamie

Helpful

I have just been reading the other post on discussions.

It seems that this is a common problem and wasn't fixed in 1.1.3

I have noticed that I also experience this problem, the only way to get round it, after sync, reset iPod straight away!

Regards

Jamie

I have 2 new Ipod Nanos that also freeze up after syncing or even charging. Have to re-set. Using most recent update 1.3. Seem to be going backwards. Older versions never had a problem

I have the exact same problem... after being frustrated by this many times I now just reset after I sync, every time.

I use my ipod to listen almost exclusively to podcasts.

If I wanted a product that I have to basically reboot every day I would have bought a Microsoft product!!! A bit disappointed in Apple, not enough for me to not use it, but definitely enough for me to NOT recommend it to others.

Hi,

I have been experiencing this same problem. Seems to happen after syncing, and also after simply charging with via USB.

Anyone know if Apple knows about this? I doubt I'll be willing to put up with this much longer, which is a shame, as I am otherwise very happy with my iPod.

Another "iPod Freezing after Synching" Question
Posted: Sep 10, 2007 8:01 AM   in response to: Robert Lewis

Lately, my iTunes would say iPod sync is complete, and yet my iPod itself says "Do Not Disconnect" for several minutes. My fix is to right-click on the device on iTunes and click Eject.

Should I continue doing it this way? Or should I be more concerned about this?

Thanks.

I'm also using a 8GB Nano running 1.1.3 and I find it often freezes/locks up after I sync then try to play a podcast. I also notice that after I reset/reboot the Nano, my podcast playlist is empty on the Nano. Note that I use a iTunes SmartPlaylist to list playlists that are unplayed and that is what I'm syncing to the Nano. I am definitely less that impressed with this aspect of the Nano.

My iPod Nano also has this problem.

I've found that most of the time if I plug it in to the Mac and wait, then sync it, and wait some more, that it doesn't do this. But there must be some other factor involved, because it still resets itself on occasion at the start of the sync process. It just reboots when asked to sync.

The worst part, besides the annoyance, is that the reset causes the solitaire card game to reset to the first deal. The games are not random and there is no way to get a random deal. They are dealt out in some kind of ordered fashion. And the reset usually always sets it back to the beginning.

Add me to the chorus of complaints. This is crazy for so many people to have this problem with no fix. I agree with the following comment from the forum:

"If I wanted a product that I have to basically reboot every day I would have bought a Microsoft product!!! A bit disappointed in Apple, not enough for me to not use it, but definitely enough for me to NOT recommend it to others."

Shame on Apple for such neglect.

Hi, Ive a 2nd generation nano itunes 7 firm 1.1.3 & have been affected by this freezing bug. I believe too, that it happens after sync & when trying to play a podcast. Only thing to do I have just learnt is to reset. Wish I had know that last week. I drove with my wife to Northumberland, some 300 miles & had plenty of talking books. froze on my first podcast, i didn't know about the reset & couldn't use it for 600 miles of driving & 1 weeks holiday.

If there isn't a prospect of a fix in sight, I'm sending it back

Hi Robert, I think that is a common problem with most ipod nano's, it does it with mine. I'm not sure there is not much that can be done.

My iPod Nano 2nd gen. does the same infuriating thing! I have found a workaround of sorts that is quicker and just slightly less irritating. I absolutely hated the way the reset would wipe out my "recently added" playlist that allowed me to consecutively listen to all my new podcasts without having to touch the iPod. To avoid the constant "lock-up-and-reset-after-sync-problem" that happens to me after 99% of my syncs here is what I found would work: After syncing, don't go to the podcasts but just go to the top of the list on each screen which for me is Music -> Playlists -> then the first playlist and then the first item. Sometimes this locks up too but 9 times out of 10 that old, added long ago song will be play fine and I just listen to the first few seconds of it and then navigate back to my "recently added" playlist and select the first podcast in the list and it will play fine after that. But still, c'mon Apple! I love my Nano "Blackie" but can't you guys DO something about this!?
