Quicktime Progress Bar Black, Windows Vista

I am having trouble with Quicktime and windows Vista, I thought it was a problem everyone was having but I don't think it is (considering there has not been a fix for it yet). My problem is when ever I play an embedded Quicktime video (IE, Firefox, or whatever browser) the progress bar at the bottom (including the volume and the play button) are all blacked out. I have included an image to show what the problem I am having is.... If this is a known problem or it has already been addressed, I'm sorry. I tried the search but I did not find anything that was the same problem as mine. http://s154.photobucket.com/albums/s260/wabem/?action=view¤t=Quicktimeblackbar.jpg
Thanks in advance for any info you might have....
Also I am running Windows Vista x64 with an nVidia 7800 GT 265 MB....

Wish I could help, but I'm having the same problem. At the bottom where the controls should be for embedded content is a black bar instead. Happens on every qt embedded video. I had the same problem in 7.16 as on 7.2.
A fix would be great... Other than this control issue, video and sound play just fine on Vista 64.

QuickTime is not supported on a Windows 64 bit OS and the black controller is one of the known issues.
Most browser based files can also be controlled by clicking directly on the player window. A double click to start and a single click to pause.

Thanks. I have finally found the answer to the mystery. I hope Apple solves this issue quickly since many professional computers come with 64bit OS.

I would think considering how long vista has been out and just how much promotion there was to go to 64-bit that Apple would have fixed this issue by now. I too have this problem and it's really affecting my schooling actually. I have tutorials that are streamed through quicktime and let me tell you, it's hard to tell how long they are or where I am at in the video because heck, the progress bar is black. Apple, get your act together and fix this issue please.

Though not a perfect solution, it has worked for me in various programs. In order to get the progress bar to appear in quicktime plugins, you need to run the host application (firefox, ie, etc), in Windows XP (SP 2) Compatibility Mode. To do this, right click on the application or shortcut, chose properties, navigate to the Compatibility tab, and chose "Run the program in compatibility mode." The default should be XP SP2. This worked for me in firefox and in some tutorial videos I have that embed quicktime inside their own UI. Hope this helps, as I haven't yet seen it anywhere else.

Your solution worked, thank you! I thought I had gone crazy or installed something wrong. By chance, I just googled Quicktime 7 missing progress bar and thankfully found this.
yes, I'm running Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

That worked for me as well, but is it possible to fix this without using compatibility mode?
