Jumpy and Unresponsive Mouse

Theres times when I wake my computer up from sleep, and the mouse is very jumpy and even unresponsive at times. Any ideas why this happens? Its pretty random, and everything else runs fine. Thanks.

A number of people seem to be having this problem. There are a few threads going around that describe this along with computers taking an extremely long time to wake from sleep (if at all). No real solution yet, but check around and you may find something I've missed.

Right on. Thanks a lot. I've also been having the problems with it coming out of sleep. I'll for sure make sure to keep checking back.

Note that the bug (random repositioning of the mouse pointer) is related to the Airport searching for a connection. If you turn off the airport, the behavior immediately ceases.

funny you said that. Right when I started my computer up, I got an email about a reply to this thread and I was having the problem again. I tried turning my airport off, and my computer became completely unuseable. The mouse wouldn't even respond, and I had to restart my computer because I couldn't do anything with it at all. Such a strange problem.

I've also started to see this (jumpy, erratic, sticky, jerky) mouse problem, using a USB / optical mouse on Tiger.
I borrowed a bluetooth mouse and which seemed to work a bit better, although still not perfect.
I have now tried disabling AirPort, which indeed seems to fix the issue for me. I can now use the original mouse again.
Jjpmir, thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if it was introduced as part of 10.4.11 which I have just installed ? If so, is there a way to downgrade back to 10.4.10 ?

I've noticed this. I thought it was a problem with the optical scanner. I use the Airport because I'm connected to the internet via an Airport Extreme. I've had the pointer suddenly take a nose dive straight to the bottom of the screen on my iMac from time to time. I thought I might have a glitch in my mighty mouse and considered buying the wireless mouse to see if it would perform any better.
I found your comment interesting. Can you provide a link to any websites, forums or posts where this is discussed in greater detail?
Thanks!

I am having the same problem with the mighty mouse. When waking from sleep lately, it is unresponsive (or at times, just very inaccurate and sluggish, other times completely unusable) for a period of time ranging from 5 min to 30 min after waking from sleep. I have thrown out the plist, replaced batteries, restarted the comuter... nothing seems to help.
The computer is virtually unusable during this time. The problem started about 3 months ago, but is steadily becoming more and more common. In the last 3 days, it is a problem everytime it wakes from sleep. Help...

My Logitech bluetooth mouse randomly loses control and either goes erratic or overshoots the target drastically. When this happens, the only solution is to reboot. I should explain that this is two different modes. The jerky mode aways happens immediately after waking up, while the overshooting mode only happens any time during work.

The jumpy mouse is not just right after start up. It has lasted for up to 10 minutes (all i could handle) until I restarted it. I'm noticing that the problem is becoming more and more frequent on my Mac Book Pro. I also have the problem on my G5 where the mouse just goes off into one of the corners. In that case, it happens at random and is simply highly irritating.. but when the jumpy mouse (with the track pad) on the Mac Book Pro happens, it is just about unusable.

Add another to the list. Exact same problem. Occasional jumpy mouse, especially when waking up from sleep when the airport is searching for networks. Turning the airport off usually resolves the issue.

Same issue here. I don't have airport on at all. The mouse (a Logtech bluetooth revolution with a logitech USB bluetooth dongle) is freezing for about 2 to 3 seconds every couple of minutes.

I think I've verified this problem starts with the launch of Bluetooth File Exchange, and when that app is quit it continues until reboot.

I have the exact same problem with my trackpad, and it's becoming increasingly annoying since I just paid over $3k on a machine that doesn't even start up or work. Usually it helps to just restart my laptop, but I don't want to have to restart my computer every time I want to close it and open it 5 minutes later.
Also, sometimes when I open it from sleep, it doesn't even start up at all, requiring me to again restart.
And I really shouldn't have to turn off my airport everytime I close my laptop, this is really madness.
