Importing from Lexar card - error message
Posted: Nov 12, 2007 4:34 AM

This has happened twice on two cards - one 4gb and the other 2gb, so not the same card but same camera (Nikon D2x). Get the error message " ICA download error -9919) occurred ...

Anyone any ideas if this Camera vs Leopard, Lexar vs Leopard or Aperture vs Leopard. As this never happened before Leopard and Aperture update.

Images are rescued from card via Lexar software, but it is a worry.

Helpful

I have the same issue using a D200, 10.5 and Aperture 1.5.6 with all my cards, 8gb, 4gb, 2gb

I have to pickup the import where the error left off, but it works after that.

Happens every time...

Do you also get a black preview after you do any adjustments, where the viewer shows a blacked-out image?

I am getting this exact error as well with both a SanDisk Extreme III card and an Olympus xD M card. I can copy the files in finder, but not import with Aperture.

Anyone else seen this?

I too experienced a "ICA download error" when attempting to import images from a CF card to a folder as referenced (folder name is ApertureReferencedImages). After much troubleshooting, I narrowed the cause down to a permissions error with the target folder:

I was able to import the images to the Finder using Image Capture, then I attempted to import them into Aperture keeping them "In their current location". This yielded a different error: "~/Pictures/ApertureReferencedImages is not writable". Checking the permissions on my "ApertureReferencedImages" folder showed the owner set to System instead of my user. I recreated the folder and copied the contents into the new folder. I then renamed the new folder to match the name ApertureReferencedImages and Aperture was then able to import images from my CF card.

Realize this was long-winded but I hope it helps someone with a similar issue.

Hello,
Glad you found our little problem, I can't seem to narrow it down yet.

I am storing files in the aperture library, and if I import from harddisk, like, if I copy the CF contents to HOME and import..it works fine.

What error -# were you getting with aperturereferencedfiles

this is very strange, here is an archived thread.

csoltis, I was also getting a -45 error. For me it was absolutely a permissions-related error. If you are unable to import to the Aperture Library and getting -45 errors, I would double-check the permissions on the Library itself. Another thing to try would be creating a new project in the library and importing to there.

To anyone with a related issue - I explained my experience in-depth on my blog over at Inside Aperture:

Ultimately, fixing permissions resolved the issue for me.

Hello, I've just upgraded computers, and as Leopard is on the new machine, gone from 10.4.10 to 10.5.1, and I'm now getting this ICA download error - 9919 while trying to import as well.

I'm using a Sandisk Extreme III 2gb card, and Aperture version 1.5.6. Storing the files in the Aperture library.

I've tried to change the permissions settings as indicated in this thread and the blog post at Inside Aperture, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything for me. And the permissions don't seem to be any different for the folders/files as they were in 10.4.10 (where everything was working fine).

The odd thing is, the card I'm trying to import from has both jpg and raw files on it, and Aperture will import all the jpg files no problem - it doesn't give me the error until it gets into the raw ones. So it seems like if it actually was a permissions issue, this wouldn't be the case (?)...

I went back to my old computer running 10.4.10 and tried it there, and everything works fine. So it seems to somehow be related to the switch to 10.5.1. I have the library in the same place, and haven't changed any other settings. I'm able to access all my existing photos on the new computer, so I believe everything's in the right place.

Anyone else having this issue where the permissions fix didn't resolve it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm having the same error trying to download images from a Leica D-Lux 3. Repairing permissions does not fix it, and I'm trying to go to the Aperture library. The camera works fine on my desktop running 10.4.11. The problem is with the new laptop and 10.5.1.

It's funny because I was happy I figured Aperture might actually be usable on the intel box...it is slow as molasses on my dual G5. But now this. I was about ready to chuck it out the window, or go back to using iPhoto (similarly slow though...too many photos).

Apple, please fix this. It clearly is a 10.5 issue.

hey, so after a little experimenting i found that if i plug in my camera (i was trying to import directly from the camera, but in theory i think this should be the same with a cardreader), and let aperture open its import window, and then wait (and wait, and wait) while all the thumbnails of the raw files load into the import window, and then click import, they all successfully import without giving me the error. (and i tried this again with the last one's thumbnail still unloaded, and it imported all the rest, and gave me the error on the last one.)

i never had to do this on 10.4 - it's definitely something with 10.5. at least this way i can get my photos imported, but it's a total pain if you have 2 gb worth of photos to import, as it takes a really long time.

Brian - many thanks. I experienced the problem exactly as you described it. Waiting for the preview to appear for all pictures on the card seemed to solve the problem. All I now ned do is remember to go away and make a cup of tea as a key part of the Aperture workflow.

By the way, following your experience, I was able to download from a card reader. I did not have to connect the camera directly.
