Internet Sharing oddity

I just set up a Mac Mini as our entertainment center. I have a Mac Pro downstairs with a lot of ripped DVDs on them. (I don't want the kid handling the discs themselves.)
Anyway, I put an ethernet cable between the Mac Mini and the second ethernet port on the Pro, and turned on Internet Sharing on the Pro so that the the mini can get out.
From the Mini, I can browse the files on the Pro, and transfer incredibly fast. However, it takes several minutes for the initial connection. The mac Mini cannot access the internet either. I can't even ping the pro from the Mini, despite a direct connection. The fact that files transfer tells me that Bonjour and/or AFP are still working.
I've reversed the "Share port 1 with port 2" a few times, the Mini's Gateway is set up to be the the address of the Pro. Any explanations of advice would be very helpful and appreciated.

The solution appeared in the Unix forum with a more fundamental question. Basically, both ports on the Mac Pro were given the same subnet. This confused the Pro, as it didn't know which port to forward TCP packets. It was stopping all packets from the Mac Mini.
A very quick fix.
