Problems with Address Book search function

I have successfully imported all my contacts from MS Outlook into Address Book. However when I type some characters into the search box to home in on a contact I know is there, Address book does not always find the text. Typing the same text into spotlight does find the record in Address Book. - Very strange...
If I edit the contact that Address Book will not find, by deleting the contact name and then retyping it in, Address book does find the record from then on...
Any ideas - I am hoping not to have to go through and edit and retype all my contact details....
Many thanks for anyone's help

I don't know the fix, but I'm having exactly the same problem. Good news is, the data is still there. Bad news is, you can't find it!
Very disappointing, as this is a critical 'feature' of an Address Book.

Thanks for the link. I did search the forums first, but was searching for "search" rather than "find" - ironic given that is also the problem!!

My guess is that the import had some strange behavior. Try this: select all your contacts, export into a single vcard file on your desktop, delete all contacts in Address Book, then import the vcard file. This should force Address Book to recognize all the contacts. Oh, and I'd probably not delete the card that is "your" card, nor include it in the export and import.

I doubt this is a permanent fix. I had removed the entry in question (moved the vCard to desktop, deleted AB entry, re-imported vCard) and the problem reappeared (with the same entry, unfortunately) a few weeks later.
In my case I think it has something to do with iSync.
