Hello,
While using the trackpad to scroll down a web page, my MBP gets ripples on the display. I looked at the activity Monitor while doing this and it never went passed 60% used. I have 2g of RAM with the 2.2ghz processor. Is this normal??
Thanks in adv.

I also have this problem! I am using fire fox at the moment and it isn't doing it anymore.I really like Safari but can't stand the ripples. It seems the only application it does it in is Safari.

I call it more of a flicker, but I also experience this issue with a MBP (led backlight). It is not browser dependant, but as Safari scrolls smoothly, it is much more apparent with this than other browsers.
Here is a perfect example, watch the sidebars on this page while scrolling :
http://www.theautochannel.com
It's also particularly bad with this site (apple discussion board), and others with high contrast text, the text flickers/ripples very badly This never happened with my Powerbook display. Is this an issue or simply inherent with these displays. Personally, it is giving me headaches when scrolling through large amounts of text (which I often do for work), and rendering this laptop virtually unusable for me.
I'm surprised to find very few others complaining about this phenomenon, perhaps I'm not describing the issue well with my search terms. Has anyone heard of a solution?
Thanks

well, I for one feel wholly ripped off. I bought this MBP in December, and the recent upgrade makes me a little ill, especially since I have spent two months trying to work with this screen and fighting with Leopard every day. I feel like a test subject, except I paid $4000 for the opportunity.
As far as I can tell this screen issue is inherent with the LED displays of this generation. I will soon enough see if it has been solved with this latest upgrade.

I have the same problem as the rest. The autochannel displays the problem perfectly. So when I started to adjust the screen resolution, I noticed that it goes away when you change the display from the default 1440x900 in millions of colors. I then reset the display to the default settings again and looked at the link - it was barely noticeable!?! Something still isn't right with the driver.

Me too ! Its driving me mad. It comes and goes randomly.
I called Apple this morning and they reckon there is no problem ............
My iMac and MacBook is fine. It happens everywhere on mine - Finder windows, Mail, Safari, iPhoto.
Only way to cure is reinstall, but it still comes back. I did notice that it was worse when using the battery.

Is this what you guys are talking about? It's happening on my wife's MBP - I'm not sure if it's Safari only, or other browsers, or other apps as well.

This is exactly the problem, it happens with anything on screen. I done a reinstall yesterday and so far all is well - but it will come back.
I do have slight suspicions about Toast 8, so I have left it of for now ..............

Reading a different thread, someone mentioned this problem goes away when the power cord is plugged in (it's only on battery power). I'm wondering if it might have something to do with the energy saver prefs?
I did a split second test and it fixed the problem when plugged in, but didn't have time to do anything more than that.

Has anyone else noticed that the rippling or tearing will fix itself temporarily if you click on a drop down menu from your menu bar. Of course it comes right back when you scroll again. Frustrating!

I'm compiling information about how and how often this issue occurs.

I may be speaking too soon, but I think the Safari 3.1.1. update Apple pushed out today might have fixed this.
