A visitor recently downloaded Skype to my Macbook. Now, Skype lauches every time I start up. How can i remove Skype? When I try to drag the desktop icon into the trash, the trash turns into an eject icon. When I try to find Skype in my list of Applications, it is not there. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do a search for "Skype" to find it, and drag it to the trash. Alternatively (and at least to prevent it from starting at boot) you can go to the user accounts system preference pane and under your account remove "Skype" from the list of applications that start upon login.

When in doubt, opt-cmd-P-R

Trash the Skype application. That's about it!
Now if you want to erase every trace of Skype:
Delete the file Macintosh HD:Library/Preferences/com.skype.skype.plist
Delete the file User/Library/Preferences/com.skype.skype.plist
Delete the folder User/Library/Application Support/Skype
Go to System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items and remove Skype from the list. It would be there if you have enabled Skype to launch when you log in to Mac OS X.

I've found that spotlight is exceptionally useful for finding all the preferences and other configuration files and that applications put everywhere.
