Push calendar
Posted: Mar 8, 2008 2:13 PM

This is a thread that I hope will get Apple's attention, so please add your comments. I have posted on the mail list as well.

Now that we have the news that the iPhone and iPod Touch are to support push services via Activesync from a M$ Exchange server, great news by the way. Are us users of OSX Leopard Server for our organizations going to be left out in the cold? As head of the Tech Department for an SME I pushed us from complete reliance on M$ servers on to OSX Servers. Despite initial resistance, this has been both positive and beneficial for our company. With these announcements, the lack of push facilities from an Apple Server to an Apple iPhone is going to become a major issue for those of us who have migrated and have won out in all other aspects. I for one would not like to let this become a chronic problem for the OSX Leopard Server community. Apple please update OSX server to allow those of us supporting Apple in the SME corporate space to not loose face here.

Yes! This is a total show stopper for us!

I presumed that Apple was going to include this glaring omission (plus bug fixes to make Calender Server "useable") in the 10.5.2 update.

To be honest, it's a little embarrassing that Exchange Admins get this before us.

Come on Apple - PLEASE bring us up to speed with the NEXT UPDATE!!!!!!

Hi,

10.5.3 is apparently being tested prior to release at the moment.
Lets hope that some of the testers actually look at iCal Server etc.

Maybe the 3rd revision will give us a semi-working iCal Server.

I'm not expecting OTA Syncing just yet (until WWDC in June), but at least give us a working framework to test with.

Cheers,
Steve

My IT department are now attempting to force all of the Mac users at our school to use entourage. Mail, calendar ans so forth.. If I am not able to make Ical server work we are doomed :)

The newly rewamped office 2008 is looking ok, but as alway very complex 2 use.

Hurry up with the 10.5.3 please!!!! (and fix ical behind AD)

AGREE COMPLETELY!

Push ALL with MS Exchange and not with Leopard Server was a BIG surprise for me too! Common Apple! don't let us Leopard Server companies behind!

Also on iCal server I agree completely! It doesn't work up to know!

As a user of Leopard Server I felt excluded completely in yesterday's keynote. Not good marketing!

Looks like it might already be in the pipeline! Doesn't say specifically for iPhone, but at least the framework will be there.

This looks promising, and will hopefully be available soon. I'm looking to migrate to an OSX server, sick to the back teeth of MS but very suprised that the 'Push' technology has be aimed at Exchange first and OSX second.

Won't be doing anything until we can push with OSX. But then again, this will take away from possible MobileMe subscriptions for Apple.

Straight from the WWDC with the release of the iPhone 3G and mobileme I was very excited.
I sat hoping for any sign that the mobileme push functionality would be built into OSX server so that us SME's can use OSX Server get the same push functionality in house. The Snow Leopard web page does give some indication that in a years time some push services will be integrated...

" iCal Server 2... which includes group and shared calendars, push notifications,..."

"Remote Access
Snow Leopard Server delivers push notifications to mobile users outside your firewall, and a proxy service gives them secure remote access to email, address book contacts, calendars, and select internal websites."

Note that it does not explicitly say that calendars, mail or contacts will be push! just notifications

PLEASE PLEASE APPLE

Do not push us into the hungry embrace of M$ Exchange!!!

Give us a truly Mac centric solution

And don't make us wait a year for it!

I don't see that integrating push into OSX Server will detract from mobileme sales.

Mobileme is, like .mac, a consumer service.
The push functionality that should be in OSX Server is at the SME/Corporate level.

We are on the same boat here, we've been on the xserve for many years, unusual for a lumber company but the owners see the value on an all mac shop. Sales team all have iphones. Now my boss is considering M$ exchange because we can't push anything out with Leopard! Apple don't fail your loyal base, you are making BILLIONS with your consumer goods...

Count us in. Please PLEASE include push calendar into a dot release of Leopard Server. It would be a total slap in the face to wait an entire year for Snow Leopard to add this feature.

I made the decision to go to OS X server based on Apple's own marketing that it was great for Small Business with "no need for an IT department." So, I just finished migrating my whole company over from individual .Mac accounts to OS X Server to benefit from syncing calenders across desktops and laptops and for viewing availability of other personnel. Now I'm seeing that MobileMe is going to provide a more sophisticated environment for mail, contacts, calendars, even BackToMyMac works better than our server's VPN. Granted, we didn't have these featuers before on .Mac or OS X server, but now I'm wondering why I migrated and didn't just stay with .Mac. We would have gotten upgraded to have all these features, where as OS X server will sit untouched for about a year!!
