I have file sharing enabled and it works fine through AFP. When a windows user connects they can not log in. If I use a mac and connect there fine. Anyone know why?

I just did a reinstall of the OS and still I have an SMB issue with users trying to connect. Connecting via SMB://servername.myserver.com I get
The finder cannot complete the operation becuase some data in smb://servername.myserver.com could not be read or written (Error code -36)
Any ideas?

I had a very similar issue with SMB. Check your /etc/smb.conf file. It may be corrupt. If it is, you will also get an error when you run smbstatus. Copy smb.conf.template to smb.conf and restart samba to see if that takes care of the problem.

Jfreeze
Can you tell how to check /etc/smb.conf file? How do I run Smbstatus?
How do I copy the template etc.
Yeah, I've got the same issue alright.
Paul.

Enable "Guest Access" on the SMB service and it will allow windows users to authenticate. Worked for me on as a Primary Domain Controller with the machines already added. It's the only way I can get a XP user to connect.

I have enabled guest access for SMB, but now everyone automatically logs in as a guest now. How can I get the users to authenticate their login?
Thanks

When my XP users log in using the login screen, none of them log in automatically. They shouldn't log in automatically under a domain name.

I guess part of my problem is that most of my XP users are actually going through Parallels. Would that make a difference?
The users will log in, but they still have guest read only privileges.

Sorry for no follow up response on my end. I didnt check to see if anything was corrupt but I do have an open Apple ticket.
For now I gave those windows users a group and added them to the group under POSIX with Read and Write. The ACL's I left since that is working fine. I also enable guest but I am not joining them to the domain. The drives are just hand mapped.
