10.5.3 broke my AirPort Extreme

After "upgrading" to 10.5.3 I noticed that there was no AirDisk in my Finder list. I the tried to use the Airport tool to see if everything looked OK. The Airport tool can't find my Airport.
Since it is all computer stuff I have tried to power everything down and up again, but with the same result... I guess that I will have to find a cable to connect to the Airport Extreme.
Anybody else who have faced this problem?

I'm having the exact same problem. My airport has never had a problem since I got this Macbook around December. As soon as I applied the 10.5.3 update, my connection began dropping every few minutes. My airport utility is also coming up with the "no device" message as well.

Yes,
i am having this here in my home. All Macs with 10.5.3 except our Intel MacBook share the problem with 10.5.3. All run well with 10.4.11, just when booted with 10.5.3 they can't get an ip-adress via dhcp - but with 10.4.11 it all runs well ...
I did a lot to fix it including repairing rights on boot disk, resetting the PRAM and even deleting all network related preferences, but since yesterday nothing works - just the MacBook of my son ....

mine also. ran my usual sunday afternoon weekly software update check, Apple software said i should download and install 10.5.3 fixes ( i was already running 10.5.3, with no problems ), after the download and install, i can no longer log into my e-mail, safari, or do a software check update through my airport extreme. as of this writing, i am hard-wire direct to my ethernet.
i believe the problem is a compatibility problem with the airport extreme.
i hope Apple comes up with a new fix real fast !

I have just installed the 7.3.1 firmware update. I just got my Extreme today and it took me two hours just to successfully set it up, so I am not pleased with it right off the bat. I thought I successfully installed everything because I was on the internet for about 5 minutes (enough time to install the firmware update) then was disconnected. Now I have to unplug the Extreme and plug it back in for a few more minutes of Internet. Any suggestions?
In need of help!

In regards to the AirPort Extreme problems related here, I'm running 10.5.3 on a MacBook Pro. I just bought my APE this afternoon, it set up perfectly, and I am able to surf the internet fine with Mozilla Firefox. Unfortunately, I'm not able to use the Software Update or update any of the programs I have that use the Sparkle updating system. I suspect that I would be able to update these programs if I plugged back in using an Ethernet cord.
So far, I haven't experienced any disconnection issues or other problems, which is encouraging. Later, I might play around with some of the settings to see if anything works.

I solved it - what a shame .......
I switched off the firewall and now it runs !
I have to check which setting exactly created the trouble. But it's sh.. that it happens on all Macs at my home, as soon as 10.5.3 is there.
Maybe one of you will find out which port has to be enabled to make it work ....
Best regards,
Gigi

Applications normally manage the connection through firewall automatically in OS X.
Anyway, it's safe to turn off firewall on your Mac since you are behind a NAT router (Apple Base Station), everything inside are in the private address space, no one from outside can access the computers inside the private network, unless you use the port mapping function on AEBS.

I think I might have something that will interest you. If you can't discover your wireless network, try this:
1) Open Airport Utility
2) Select your basestation (if it's visible)
3) Click Manual Setup down the bottom
4) The configuration menu should come up
5) In the row of tabs second from top, select "Wireless" (these are the ones without icons)
6) Down the bottom there should be a button, "Wireless Options"
7) A new window will appear, down the bottom, it should mention a "closed network", if the box is ticked that is probably the reason why you can never see the network.
If the above turns out to be true, I suggest you go through your settings and set your mac to join the network automatically, I went through the same thing, and it seemed to work for me.
Good luck, and I hope this helps
