30 day guarantee does NOT apply to the iPhone. The iPhone (per Apple) has only a 14 day guarantee.

It all depends on the market you live in. Where I live, the demand won't be extremely high. Whereas, if you live in a major metro area, you may want to be there at opening and cross your fingers.

Before you swap, I just read an article from an AT&T spokesman that said the data plan with the new phone is $10/month more. So if you want to swap your phone to save $200, you will lose $240 over the life of your plan.
I am not saying this is fact, just what I read. FYI.

well, that being the case I guess I'm just out of luck. It would seem that the 27th was not chosen arbitrarily.

What you said is true, yes. But I'm not getting it to save the 200 bucks. I'm getting it for the new features that the 2G will not have.

If you are within 14 days of purchase you can return the phone anyway, minus the 10% restocking fee. Just go return your phone, get your refund, then buy the new phone on July 11th.

You DO NOT have to return your phone within the 14 days. Please re-read the post.

Very disappointing considering that I just got my iphone 2 months ago and the price has been cut in half! I have been complaining to AT&T about the slow and intermittent internet service for over a month now and now that something better has come up, the best they can do is tell me to buy the new phone when it comes out? Very Very disappointed.
I will be leaving AT&T and the IPHONE permanently!

In defense of AT&T - Everyone knows Apple tries to keep any upcoming releases hush-hush. Doesn't always work, but they try. And honestly, AT&T didn't know until today that the 3G version was even coming. ****, I told the CSR about it. They had no clue until today. Glad I called now too.

I'd sure be interested in getting a new phone at this new price, but similar to the original iphone purchasers, I'm feeling a little upset at Apple at the moment. I was an original itouch purchaser and spent $400 dollars on it and now it seems to me they just destroyed the itouch market. Since you can buy a iphone so much cheaper, why even consider an itouch which can't do as much and costs considerably more. I love the itouch and thought it was the future of the ipod line, but I guess its the iphone that's the future.

Can you do the iPhone upgrade if you're using an unlocked phone? I'm assuming no, since you probably can't return it once the warranty has been voided...so if I'm planning to unlock, I should just wait for the new model instead of buying now and then upgrading on the 11th, yes?

One question,
I'm still within the 14 day period..I understand that I can keep this Iphone though and go through the upgrade process before August 1st. However, can I continue to use this Iphone and load music and go on about using it like I would normally or should I not use it? I'm confused...because although I have a leather case...it's a cell phone and things happen. I just want to make sure that I'll be able to switch it in.
