the solution is to remove all apps by unchecking the synch apps checkbox and hitting apply. then check it, hit apply again, and put all the apps back. yes you lose your app data, but otherwise nothing is touched. 7.1.1, 2.0.1

I have the same issues and I got my iphone two days ago. This morning I went to the iPod screen, no music but all the apps were working. I rebooted the iPhone, now none of the apps work. Assuming that all of these issues are app based, would it be logical to assume that a single app might be the culprit? Currently I am running AIM, Loopt, Pandora, Shazam and Remote. Based on other friends who seem to have no issues with their iPhones and have had them for quite a while, AIM would be the app that I would pick on first.

I figured some stuff out. If you reboot/restart your phone you need to log back into itunes from the phone before the apps will work. The way I did this was simply to download a free app. After being prompted for my user id and password for itunes, all of the other apps on my phone began working again. I think the same effect might be attainable simply by clicking the update button but I haven't tried it yet.
The fact that all of my songs were gone this morning after loading them yesterday is still irritating. I think I am going to try to make a specific playlist for my phone (like the apple site says) rather than using the manual sync option, I am betting that is still glitchy. However being in my 14 day window if I notice this issue again I am taking the phone back to the apple store and if they don't exchange it I will back out of the plan.

ok, so...
iphone 2.0.2 is out. now, i am running and i'm happy with 2.0.1 and itunes 7.7. i see no reason to give myself a heart attack by trying 2.0.2 and 7.7.1.... or even 2.0.2 and 7.7.
any takers?

Someone over here: http://forums.ipodlounge.com/showthread.php?threadid=137115
Seems to have fixed the issues by removing the album artwork. Apparently there was an album artwork which was corrupt.
Haven't given it a try, but if someone can, let us know how it goes.
Thanks

A FIX WAS POSTED!!
"
FIX! FIX! FIX!
I had same problem... No music in iPod and ALL apps crashing after 2-3 seconds.
Here's what worked for me, after trying several other things:
1. Open iTunes
2. Add a random song to one of my synced playlists
3. Connect iPhone to computer
4. Sync iPhone
5. Everything back to normal.
It seemed as if adding the one song "woke up" my iPod function.
Worked for me, hope it helps you.
"
Tested and WORKS!

I am installing 2.02 now but LEAVING itunes on 7.7. I have decided it is not worth the trouble to try 7.7.1 and 2.02 since I know downgrading fixed the issues. I will try 7.7.2 when it comes out and all firmware updates until then. Will post tomorrow how the update went. It will take hours to do 2.02 on my phone.

i wish you all the best if it does, and it's far from me to say it won't. i would advise that, if it doesn't work, that you take a careful read through the whole thread find a more permanent fix.

I just installed 2.0.2 on my original iphone (I'm keeping iTunes 7.7.0 for now!). The install went very cleanly. My 112mb backup only took about 5 minutes. The entire install about 10-15 minutes.
After it finished I sync'd immediately. It did another fairly quick backup and installed some podcasts that had come in. All as expected.
After that I exercised the beast by running about 20 apps and playing video and audio podcasts. I powered down and restarted and all is fine so far.
I had no problems (or gain) with 2.0.1 so I don't expect a problem here. It was iTunes 7.7.1 that hosed me.
I think you're good to go with this firmware update if you're still on 7.7.0 as I am. I can't speak for 7.7.1......

Funny. Go to www.macfixit.com and read the post about 2.02. It says some people complaining that after running it all their apps crash. I replied saying I bet you are running 7.7.1 and when you did the update it killed your DRM.
I agree that 2.02 should work fine as long as we stay on 7.7 of itunes.
Also for those who posted the album art fix as well as the add a song to the playlist. I tried those and yes they sometimes bring back the music but that is a bandaid and not a fix. Until you go back to 7.7 the problem will continue to come back.
TWO WEEKS now without an app crash that a simple reboot would not fix!!!

I agree. I had no more problems after downgrading itunes for more than a week. I don't understand why apple keeps disregarding this problem. They released iphone 2.0.2 and no itunes 7.7.2. I upgraded to iphone 2.0.2 with no headaches. Of course, I am running itunes 7.7.
