Network Connection Reset in China

I am in Shanghai and have been able to use iTunes for 3 years now with no problems, but for the past two days I get an immediate message that the "network connection was reset". I have tried the usual trouble shooting with updating software, unplugging, restarting, pirouetting etc... Have contacted friends in Shanghai and they are not able to access it either. Can anyone find out if it is being blocked and how long it will be gone? Thanks for any insight....

Noticed this too. Must be GFW blocking as I can access via VPN.
Guess negotiations with China Mobile aren't going as well as hoped.

Hey jenjen2008.
I have the exact same problem as you for the past two days now.
I'm also in Shanghai for work.
Just bought an ipod touch here 4 days ago, so you can imagine my disappointment with the fact that I cannot even access the iTunes Store...
Apple, can you please fix this?
Or does anyone know any workaround to access the iTunes Store?

Same problem for me in Beijing. Unable to connect to store, tells me connection has been reset, but my connection is fine. iTunes store is the only thing not working. GFW? or Apple issue? Very anxious to see if there is a solution to this.

Here is the response I got from Apple:
Hello Jennifer,
My name is Bryan and I understand that you have not been able to connect to the iTunes store for the last couple days and that you are concerned that it would be an issue with China blocking the iTunes store. I'm sorry to hear that and I'm happy to assist you with this today.
ITunes is not being blocked in China from our end, but access to the iTunes Store IS restricted in some areas in China. This would also explain why it's happening to your friends there as well.
I would advise that you contact your ISP about this matter. Please also note though that accessing the US iTunes Store outside of the geographic region of the United States is not supported, and that attempting to access it while in China is at your own risk.
The iTunes Store Sales and Service Policies are available for you to review:
Terms of Sale
http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/sales.html
Terms of Service
http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/service.html
Thank you for being a valued iTunes Store customer, Jennifer. I hope that you have found the above information helpful and that you have a great day!
Kind Regards,
Bryan

This *****. Why is it suddenly being restricted? It appears to be all of MAINLAND China. Anyone in Hong Kong still able to access?

I am having the same problem here in Nanchang. I have been using iTunes in China for years without any problems until a couple of days ago. Not sure what is going on, but they really need to get this fixed. The statement that iTunes is not supported outside of it's region is stupid. All they have ever cared about is what country your bank account is in. Come on iTunes, you already have thousands of my dollars, don't you want some more!

Any guesses as to WHY it is blocked?
Why are there no news reports about this?
