Glad to see it's working for some one.

I've never seen WPA generate a code after inputting my passphrase. That sounds more like WEP. I've used WPA for a while now and all my computers, my PSP, my Wii, and my 360 have never had any issues.

My router was set (now on WEP temporarily) to WPA-PSK AES & TKIP... I did think about setting it to either AES or TKIP specifically. I remember when I got my Mac Mini, out of the box OS X (at the time or was just a bug) didn't work with WPA.

IXT - I most definitely having been having the same problem as you - Touch w 2.1 update and trouble connecting to WPA secured router. I'm even using a D-Link router, a DIR-655.

I went into settings for the router and disabled the QoS. That allowed me to logon using WPA. However, if I turn the Touch off altogether it gets twitchy and it can be hard to get back on the wifi.

The first gen Touch I had worked perfectly with WPA so this is pretty disappointing.

I'm using a DIR-615 and it doesn't have a QoS setting on this version.

****...I thought that was gonna do it for you. You might try changing other settings on the router related to data protocol if there are any.

Clearly, there's a problem with Apple's latest Touch software and internet access. Hopefully they'll have an update soon.

DEFINATELY v2.1.1 firmware bug with WPA/WPA2 support!

1) iPod Touch v2.1.1 -- two different brand new units.

2) Fails to connect -- DLink DIR-655 firmware v1.11 and then v1.20 (latest as of Aug 2008) -- same issues with WPA & WPA2.

3) DLink DIR-615 (latest firmware) -- connects with WPA, however, performance degrades and eventually a reboot of the iPod Touch is required to restore WiFi access at speed.

Handful of newly minted iPod Touch users are pretty disappointed and have new ammo to be unhappy at Apple with.

Additional DIR-655 log details -- it appears the MAC address of the v2.1+ firmware devices gets lost in the shuffle compared to proper clients (e.g. notebook, Windows Mobile devices, wireless Ip webcams, etc.)

INFO Wed Sep 10 23:09:55 2008 wireless: Wireless system with MAC address 002241809687 associated

INFO Wed Sep 10 23:09:57 2008 wireless: Wireless system with MAC address 000000000000 disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication

Something screwy in Apple's v2.1+ firmware to be sure.

Also disabled QoS, WiSH, WiFi Protected Access, Traffic Shaping, etc. etc. -- makes no difference.

Tried enforcing just WPA/TKIP and WPA2/AES, ran Auto-WPA/WPA2 w/TKIPandAES, etc. etc. -- makes no difference.

Major firmware SNAFU with v2.1+

Try this:

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

It'll automatically reboot. After it reboots, turn it off altogether for about 5 - 10 seconds. Turn it back on and reenter your password.

I am glad I found this thread.

I have a brand new 2.1.1 2G Touch and also an original Touch. The original Touch worked fine with WPA2 and my Linksys DIR-655 but the 2G cannot connect. I get the same "invalid password" message as the other posters.

My Linksys log shows:
Wireless system with MAC address 00224189xxxx associated
Wireless system with MAC address 00224189xxxx disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication.

Helpful

DEFINATELY v2.1.1 firmware bug with WPA/WPA2 support!
=====================================================
NOTE: Did access point full factory resets, then Disabled QoS (or WMM as some refer to it), WiFi Protected Access, Traffic Shaping, ensured no Mac blocking, etc. across the board in the tests (also tried with all enabled, no change). Additionally, manually enforced just WPA/TKIP, then only WPA2/AES, and finally Automatic WPA/WPA2 support -- all without success.

1) FOUR new iPod Touch 2G's FAIL
-- iPod Touch v2.1.1 firmware (done full restores, reboots, resets, etc.)

2) WPA & WPA2 fails to connect
-- DLink DIR-655 - firmware v1.11 & later v1.20 (latest as of Aug 2008), also new unit with latest hardware revision

3) WPA2 fails to connect, WPA works partially (with quick speed degradation requiring iPod Touch reboot to fix!)
-- DLink DI-624 Rev.C - firmware v2.76 (August 2006), tested two different units w/same results

Additional DIR-655 log details
==============================
It appears the MAC address of the v2.1+ firmware devices gets lost in the shuffle compared to proper clients (e.g. notebooks, Windows Mobile devices, wireless Ip webcams, etc.)

  • INFO Wed Sep 10 23:09:55 2008 wireless: Wireless system with MAC address 002241809687 associated
  • INFO Wed Sep 10 23:09:57 2008 wireless: Wireless system with MAC address 000000000000 disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication

Appears to be a major firmware SNAFU with v2.1.1.

Wow, thank you. That was a lot of great information. Hopefully some one with the power to do something does it quick!

Hey,

As IXTenebrae already said he did; make sure you've tried Resetting Network Settings on the iPhone.
Settings> General> Reset> Reset Network Settings.

Does the wireless router support 802.11N? If so make sure its in a 802.11N/BG compatible mode or just a 802.11G mode.

Also, do you see the same issue when using an Airport basestation & WPA?
If you don't have one you can make a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store test it.

In our tests we Reset Network Settings, reset the Touch, restored to factory from iTunes 8, etc. - no joy on any count.

We have run/tested a mix of 802.11g & 802.11n routers, and enabled/disabled 802.11g only access or b/g access on both as well - no joy.

Earlier in the thread it appears that Apple's wireless may work with the new firmware, however, that doesn't say/help all that much given the WiFi marketplace out there and in use by users I think.

Added limitation/failure
========================

It appears that YouTube won't play anything even on the intermittent/degrading WPA connection we were able to get (with somewhat regular iPod Touch 2G reboots to get performance back).

Additionally, one of our iPhone 3G firmware v2.0.1 also seems to have the YouTube failing when WPA, however, turning off WiFi WPA connection and using the 3G cellular network only allows YouTube to play just fine.

I tried disabling .11n mode but it still cannot connect.

Regarding going to the Apple store, even if it does work with a Airbase that isn't going to help those of us with non-Apple wireless routers.
