This was enough to get me to cancel my order. I really want to know more about this issue before I hand out $2000 for a computer. If more or less all Macbook Pros have this fault I will not buy one, simple as that.

As someone else have said, if they are like this when they are brand new, how will they be in a few years?

I love Apple computers and I love OS X, but for now I will tell my friends to wait with their orders.

And by the way, my MBP (early 2006) doesn't have this problem and doesn't appear to have the same mechanical construction.

Thanks everyone for sharing their experiences! I was very sure I'd order a MBP this week, but I'd rather wait and see what happens. I must agree these kind of issues are rather annoying and distracting...

Same here - cancelled my order due to this. No way I'm paying £2000 for a laptop with these kind of problems. I'll wait until they fix this, but I'm getting anxious so might buy another laptop all in all.

Same issue here. I like to keep it up at an angle when in bed, and dang it I have to push it back up every 15 mins or so. The hinge is just..oh...25% too loose.

One small step for man; one giant leap for mankind... well, With this computer I lost my favorite position to work.

I was surprised when I noticed that problem, I refused to accept that was a mistake, since I love Apple products, but, I was wrong... I went to an Apple store and ALL the MBP on display had exactly the same problem.

I can't believe the engineers didn't take in consideration people that would like to work lying down, or people with some sort of physical limitations.

I VOTE FOR A RE-CALL!!! you guys should visit... www.HINGELOOSE.com

DO NOT go to www.hingeloose.com

The scuzbag posted a link to some sort of commercial site with flash and irritating and completely irrelevant content.

Same here. My display falls open very easily. When I pick it up to move someplace else
the display falls all the way open without much force. Quite scary for a $2500 piece of
hardware. I hope they can just tighten it without much complexity.

I returned 3 new 17" MBP's in March this year because of this same problem. Now the 15" inherits the same defective design.

WTH is going on with these people at Apple? Glass, mirror display, black thick bezel and now loose flopping hinges.

This is an abomination of a design people. RECALL !!!!

I recently purchased a macbook pro, which was an agonizing decision because of the things I read on this forum regarding the hinge problem; but since i absolutely needed firewire for video editing, I went through with purchasing one. And I dont regret it one bit. I dont know if my pro is an exception or its just fresh off the production line, but they're are no dead pixels, no "dust" behind the screen, and almost no problems with the hinge. Unless you hold the notebook at a 90 degree angle, the screen will not budge. Plus with the extended view angle of the new mbp, its even less of a problem. Honestly, I dont know why you would hold it at a 90 degree angle any way, because any thing less and the hinge performs admirably. I hope this helps, and I promise i dont work for apple ;)

Same here, really annoying. Using the MBP in bed is now a real effort, having to use a hand to support the 'floppy' screen.

I tried tilting a few at the SF Apple store last week and they all had the problem, HOWEVER, I was at the Emeryville Apple store yesterday and on the way out, I tilted a couple of MBPs to see if they too had the problem. None of them did. Grrr

I just bought a new MBP and love it but I can't use in bed or relaxing on the couch with this hinge. We need a fix asap. Should I keep the notebook and wait to send back to Apple in the future for repair or take it back now and wait until they have a fix?

I gotta agree w/ Joker... in spite of all the whining about the hinge, and it is not as tight as it should be. it really works great for the OTHER 94% of usage... these are still sweet computers. the touchpad is such an improvement from the old ones, it's like a whole new UI. Gotta have it. I wouldn't trade my floppy hinged new MacBook for ANY other notebook out there! .... still they should address the issue. I don't work for apple either... but I would!
