Yep, me too. Crashes on opening tabs.
Inquisitor and PithHelmet installed - it's probably one of these at fault, but jeez, Apple - surely every serious Safari user has both? Couldn't you check they didn't break it and get an update of both out +first+? I know you're, like, more important than some poxy 3rd party dev, but aren't we users just a teeny bit important too?
Oh. Silly me.

This is horrible. I crash it like there is no tomorrow. I crashed it when I click on a link. I crashed it when I restart it. I crashed it when I try to re-open windows from last session. What more?

Welcome to Apple Discussions:
I am quite a serious computer user and Safari user (I don't know what a "serious" Safari user is) and I do not use either of those plugins.
I use the hosts file for blocking, and the autofill in Safari is adequate.
I also never install an update the instant it comes out. As a serious user I wait and watch first.

The latest version of Inquisitor (build 58) continues to work fine with Safari 3.2, but PithHelmet in its current form does not.
We will have to wait until PithHelmet gets updated.

I have no 3rd party hacks, plugins or add ons other than the latest version of Adobe Flash player.
Safari 3.2 reproducibly crashes when I have the anti-phishing option turned on. I have done all the usual things such as permission repair and deleting preference files, to no avail. Crashes every time with anti-phishing on (more than 1 website, including www.nytimes.com), but not with it off.

Crashed here too.
Glims warned me, so I uninstalled it.
Kept on crashing.
Deleted Pithelmet.
Seems to be ok now.

Because the people who code these things use parts of Safari's code that were not meant to be used by developers and are likely to change when an update is released. In short, they don't follow the rules. Again, for future reference, if you insist on using these hacks then don't update until a new version of the hack is known to be compatible. Assume that any new version of Safari or WebKit will break the hack you are using. You can take that to the bank.

I removed PithHelmet, and the crashing stopped for me.
SafariStand and Inquisitor seem to work just fine so far with Safari 3.2.

I installed 3.2 last night, what a mistake. It not only crashed itself, it crashed lots of other things and basically shut my computer down. I reset permissions, rebooted, and now things are ok but just barely because the performance for safari is significantly slower. It seems to have affected the performance of lots of programs. Most noticeable is how long it takes to open programs. Mail used to bounce once and then was up, now it takes six bounces?
So how the heck do I dump 3.2 and go back to 3.1?

I am having this problem, too. Quits within a few seconds, regardless of site. I have PithHelmet installed and would rather have that than the "warn when bad sites" feature. Sent bug report to Apple and PH.

It is not a bug in Safari. PithHelmet has not yet been updated to comply with Safari 3.2 and should be uninstalled pending an update.
How to uninstall PithHelmet:
http://www.culater.net/software/PithHelmet/PithHelmet.php
Scroll down to step 2.3

If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have):
N.B. Never delete Safari
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta, and now both Tiger and Leopard uses Safari 3.2. If Safari 3.2 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to Safari 2.x when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.x use a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-on that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.2.
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates up to 2008-007. Like all security updates, these require a restart and a permission repair. Note that 2008-007 is a combo update: if you have missed a couple of updates this one will suffice.
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
• Hard Disk/Library/InputManagers
• Home/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates and updates to Safari (they can always be added back one-by-one later).
