By the way. It is data that has the problem. Calls over 3G work great.

This could possibly be due to the result of the Fires in the SoCal area.
Allot of emergency services, and local residents using data to communicate with friends, families, emergency services.
If you are experiencing this give it a couple days and see if congestion calms down. You can also contact at&t see if they are getting reports of this and any possible ETA on it.

It is just kind of strange that I starting having this problem right after I upgraded to 2.2. I will check my speeds again when I am in a different location to find out if it is the phone or AT&T.

Same here in Long Beach and at work in Downey. It was OK til I installed 2.2. All five bars, but EVERY Web site is very slow if it even loads the web site.

SteveLgBch, try google maps: zoom in and move around erratically for awhile and see if it loads, or get some empty rectangular spaces. Thanks.
I also have the EXACT same problem loading websites.

Me again.
3G connections seem to be back in business. They might have been servicing the towers--integrating 850 near my area? Seem faster now!
Hope it stays this way.

Still no 3G in Anaheim. It does seem to be sketchy. It comes back for a few minutes and. Then goes away again.

Well it is a 2.2 problem for sure, and confirmed. I got ahold of a friend's phone that has not been updated yet, and the two phones side by side:
Mine, no data.. .very slow, loses connection to servers etc. Theirs, works fine every single time. Both show full 5 bars of 3G service. Why can't Apple get this right?!?!? sigh

Not necessarily. Updating to 2.2 has screwed up mail settings for many and fixing them returned normal function. Your 3G network settings by be tanked. Try:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
MacPro Quad Core
Mac OS X (10.5.5)
iPhone 3G 16GB (2.2)
