Excuse my simplicity!
I can upload a plugin for Adobe Flash into Safari on my PC and it then works fine.
Is Safari on the iTouch just a cut down version or can Apple not be bothered to incorporate Flash because it would open up more 'Tubes' other than JUST YouTube.
Any ways round this ?
Can you upgrade the iTouch Safari 3.2 to match the PC & hence Flash?
Thanks for anyone listening.
Cheers

The Safari version used in iPhones and iPod touches does not support Flash (as mentioned earlier). Nothing you can do will add Flash capability to your touch. Will Apple add Flash in future versions? Who knows (and we are not supposed to speculate about such things in the Forums).

Yes, that's because Adobe has written a Flash Plugin for use on desktop/laptop PCs.

The iPod touch (not iTouch) is not a PC. It is a handheld multimedia device with internet functionality. It runs a different OS and uses different CPUs, so stuff written for a PC or Mac will not run on an iPod touch.

Is Safari on the iTouch just a cut down version

It uses the same HTML and Javascript engines, and most likely shares a lot of code with the desktop version of Safari - but its a different application, written and optimised for a low powered handheld device.

open up more 'Tubes' other than JUST YouTube.

YouTube doesn't use Flash on the iPod touch - it uses MPEG 4 video files. The full PC version of Flash demands too much processing power to run acceptably on the relatively low-power (compared to a desktop PC) CPU of the iPod touch.

Any ways round this ?

No. If you need to view Flash files, use a PC or Mac.

Can you upgrade the iTouch Safari 3.2 to match the PC & hence Flash?

No. As already mentioned you cannot run PC or Mac applications on an iPod touch (not iTouch).

Julian - many thanks for your clear explanation - I better understand the problem - only hope Mr (or Ms) Apple are listening and align Safari/Flash to both PC's and i-devices .....
On a side note re FS - what are forums by definition for if not to 'speculate' , learn, advance and share knowledge....... I shall ponder that.

I don't know that's it up to Apple, is it? Perhaps as much as to provide Adobe with what they need to engineer a version of Flash for the iPhone/Touch device. It would be nice to have that happen.

I suggest you read through the Apple Support Forum's Terms of Use at http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa and note item 2 that says "Unless otherwise noted, do not add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including: 1. Speculations or rumors about unannounced products., 2. Discussions of Apple policies or procedures or speculation on Apple decisions."

The Forums are for solving problems and not speculation. If there is something you want to tell Apple, try http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodtouch.html

Many thanks for the optomistic reply which I shall interpret (from the regulations) as "find solutions to help you resolve issues" rather than "speculation"
Kindest regards
