iWork '08 retail disc won't install to new HD

Hi,
My Mac Pro HD recently died (to the point where the OS refuses to even recognize a drive being present). I had the Genius Bar install a new HD with OS 10.5, whilst I send the old drive off for data recovery.
Now I am trying to reinstall my retail copy of iWork on the new HD, but something is stopping this from working. The disc reads fine and brings up the install option, but when I click it and the installer gets to the "preparing for installation" option, it comes up with an "Install Failed" dialog and says "Unable to Install - The installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install".
This makes no sense. Does anyone have any ideas?

That does sound odd. It could be a defective disk. You can download the iWork '08 trial & use it. The trial is exactly the same as the retail CD.
The error message you reported doesn't sound the same, but if the trial is already installed on the hard drive, the installer will realize nothing needs to be installed. If the trial is installed all you have to do is launch one of the applications as an administrator & enter your serial number.

The disc is fine, and there was no trial installed (this was a new HD with a clean OS install only).
But the iWork '08 trial trick worked - downloaded that and then activated it with my retail disc serial number. Thanks for the tip!
