Yup, Wife's iMac got stuck on "configuring installation". I'll wait to see if there's an update to the update before I try again and certainly before it goes on my MacPro.

I'm also having the same hanging during "configuring installation" with my 12in PowerBook. Have any of you tried the combo updater already and did it work?

+2 to hang on "Configuring Installation."

1: MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz Late 2007 model) with 10.5.5.
2: iMac (24-inch Mid 2007 model) with 10.5.5.

Solution: I noticed Software Update was downloading a 190 MB update. I tried installing the update normally on both machines. I encountered the hang. Forced reboot (hold power button) and tried downloading the update and installing it. Same problem. Force quite installer. Went to Apple's support page and downloaded the 10.5.6 Update (not the combo) which was 372 MB (not 190) and it worked just fine on both systems. Apple needs to fix the 190 MB package they have on Software Update.

Same thing here for 12" 1st Gen PB and MBP. Also using the combo updater. Hung at the same place for both machines. Haven't tried on the MacPro, but I doubt I will until this is cleared up.

Ran the install last night on my Powerbook G4 and it worked fine.

However, it did not work on my G5 (Quad 2.8GHz). I tried twice in vain. I tried repairing permissions but that did not make a difference. I decided to delete the update file from Software Update, and manually downloaded the update from the site:

http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10-5-6_Update

The file is about 372MB and the update happens without any problems at all.
I highly recommend it.

I have also been unsuccessful installing 10.5.6, although I make it past the "configuration step". During the validation step, the error "... could not validate 'macOSXupd10.5.6'... contact the vendor". I'm then forced to restart into 10.5.5.

Brian, I did the regular (not combo) update from the Apple dowmloads site after hanging when using Software Update. Rebooted into "Safe" mode first (startup while holding down "shift") and it worked. I'm in 10.5.6 now.

Same here.

2006 MacPro Dual Core 2.0GHz w/ 4GB RAM

Hangs in exactly the same place (configuration setup).

Thank goodness it's my home machine, which I can fudge without worry. If it was my work machine (MacBook Pro 17"), I'd be worried, very worried.

Good morning,

I have had the hang up on "Configuring Installation...", too. I've seen it on two Mac mini's (Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz).

This was the last line in the system.log before the forced reboot:
Dec 15 10:15:07 John /System/Library/CoreServices/Software Update.app/Contents/MacOS/Software Update3092: Folder Manager is being asked to create a folder (flnt) while running as uid 0

I suspect it's some kind of permissions problem?

Same here. Brand new 24" iMac hanging on install of the 10.5.6 update at the "Configuring Setup" stage. Tried multiple times.

Manual download (http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10-5-6_Update) solved the problems, works fine

Greetings,

I have had no issues with 4 Macs so far, and one was a Mac Pro - it all went smooth as silk, and everything works as it did before.

Some may say that you don't need to update, but I always have and have never had an issue. I used the Software Update, automatically on two and I downloaded the combo package for the other two - just for grins, no particular reason - I haven't had any issues so far, ever, knock on formica, and hopefully I never do.

My older iMac is definitely a bit quicker, so that was one improvement for me, out of many.

Cheers - Happy Holidays,

M.

I just updated my 2.4 GHz MBP (2007) and my 2.0 GHz Mini without any issues. I ran disk utility first and used software update. The MBP did restart twice after the installation.

Add one more for the hangs at "Configuring install". On a MacBook Pro. I also remoted into the machine and killed the softwareupdate process. I am currently trying the standalone updater.
