It's the audiophile attitude . It also helps justify spending a lot of money on something so a lot of effort goes into thinking the pricey choice is vastly superior when like you point out, there may not be much of a difference at all.

I`m sorry if I was a bit strong in my comments. But I get a bit agitated when I come across people that absolutely needs to defend Apples reasons for doing everything lately. I would not be suprised that if somehow Apple suddenly would decided to remove the ability to send SMSès on the Iphone, I would still come across fanboys trying to tell me that I do not need to send SMS`s:)
I guess I am just the kind that expects more from a product as highly anticipated as the Iphone. I understand that Apple is trying to create an aftermarket, with better accessories, but I feel that it would not cost them to much to upgrade these earbuds to something more stabile and sound isolating.
Personally, I would feel a bit sad to find a Matshita Casette Tape player in my newly purchased Ferrari.
Times are changing and so should the expectations. Thats all:)

I just bought the new Apple earbuds and I love them even though the volume control doesn't work for the iPhone. The weirdest thing though; I was wearing them tonight and I too received tiny electric shocks in both ears. It felt like mild static electricity, but i was just walking in and back out of the grocery store, I often run while listening to them wearing similar clothes and I had never been shocked before. Back to the original question, has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you fix it?
Thanks

Same problem here. Right hear only. I changed my old earphone to new one and the problem go away for some month, then reappear on right hear only. I discovers pulling the right earphone cable release the electrical charge. By the way, I only have the problem on my ipod classic. Same earphones on my old Ipod video or my wife touch and everything is alway fine. What is your ipod model?

I had the same problem happen with the standard headphones that came with the iPhone. I received shocks frequently when in use (2-4 times a week) and not only did they hurt, but they completely damaged my earbuds to a state where I could not use them (they would crack and distort the sound). I switched to a different brand (and in ear style) and have not had a problem since.
I don't think there are any proper fixes for your problem that will be lasting, other than changing your brand of headphones.

I dunno if this is related, but when I touch the metal bezel on my iPhone (and it is plugged directly into the mains via the supplied adapter) and I touch the metal on my MBP (which is also plugged into the mains) I get this funny vibration feeling only when I touch the metal surface of the MBP. If I touch some other metal object this strange sensation isn't there.
After rereading, I'm guessing it's not the same. But can someone tell me if it's a problem with either device... or my house?
Thanks

Through out winter i didn't used my iPhone earphone fearing static, which i got few time. As i use to walk from station to office with fur coat, it was difficult to have earbuds, each time i use to get shock in ears, the songs i use to play use to stop and some odd sound use to come. I had to unplug and replug. Latter i stopped listening to my iPhone.

the "vibrating" effect on the MBP can be noticed if your mains socket is 2-pin, and not 3-pin (ground). Then the body of the MBP acts as ground, and so do you when you touch it .
