jpg greyscale file not importing

I wonder if there is a bug in the new iPhoto '09? I used to be able to import 8-bit greyscale images saved from Photoshop with an ICC profile; now I get a message that the file format is not supported. I also have noticed that at least one other such photo, previously imported into iPhoto, will not display. (In the past, the previews were always black, but double-clicking the preview would show the image as expected.)

Helpful

Greyscale has never been supported, iPhoto works with RGB images as cameras shoot in RGB. That it did import was a stroke of luck and I’m afraid that seems to have changed. Can’t you save them as RGB?

That's too bad that grayscale is not supported. I have used grayscale primarily to save file size. I scan my kids school reports and their pencil drawings and import them. Since so many of Apple's customers are graphic designers, I'll bet many of us do the same thing. And, because of that, I'll bet it would be helpful to support CMYK, too.

Yes but iPhoto is aimed primarily at folks taking snapshots with point and shoot digital cameras. It’s a Mom and Pop app, not designed for a professional setting.

That said, iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback

I have had the same issue as I am archiving 1000s of b&w negatives. iPhoto wouldn’t save the psd (photoshop format) but it will tiff. I just had to see the scan resolution low enough not to get really big files. That shouldn’t be an issue for your files?

The problem isn’t with B&W vs Colour, but with Color Profiles. A B&W photo with an RGB profile will still display in B&W.
