Any suggestion?

Chnscae:

We need to get a crash log file to see where it's crashing. In order to get a crash log on Vista, you will need to enable crash logging.

Important: These steps involve making changes to the Windows registry using the Registry Editor (Regedit). Even if you are very comfortable editing the registry, you should make a backup of the registry prior to editing it. Making mistakes in Regedit can cause strange behavior and can even prevent Windows from starting. Look here for instructions on how to back up your registry in Windows Vista:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

1. Open the Windows Start menu.
2. Type regedit in the search field and click OK.
3. In Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Apple Computer, Inc.\iTunes
4. Right-click on the iTunes folder and choose New > DWORD Value.
5. Name the new value "GenerateCrashLogs" without the quotation marks and press Enter.
6. Right-click GenerateCrashLogs and choose Modify.
7. Change Value data from 0 to 1.
8. Click OK.

Now, when iTunes crashes, a crash log file will be created. A message will appear telling you where to find the crash log file. Please email me that file, and make sure to include a link to this thread and the username you are using on Discussions.

I'm having the exact issue. Updated to 8.1 When Genius tries to send information to Apple it locks up and I've got to kill it in task manager. I uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller, reinstalled from a fresh downloaded copy and I've got the same error.

I modified my XP registry key but I've yet to get a message concerning the location of the log file.

Occasionally it produces the error of "We could not complete your iTunes store request. There is not enough memory available. There was an error in the iTunes store please try again later."

BUT, can't even close message and iTunes hangs. This is awful.

Updating Genius is making itunes crash here, too. From the Applciation event viewer:

Faulting application itunes.exe, version 8.1.0.51, faulting module quicktime.qts, version 7.60.92.0, fault address 0x0001e5e2.

I run my ITL file from an external hard drive. The iTunes Library Genius.itdb is on the exHD, too. I've renamed it so now I can open iTunes again without it crashng while trying to update Genius.

Thank you Thank you Thank you.

Renamed the iTunes Library Genius.itdb to iTunes Library Genius.itdb.fail and I was able to open iTunes, cancel the library inventory, and then disabled genius.

iTunes is working once again. Terrible bug Apple.

It created a new genius.itdb file on my system too, but it didn't crash. The new file got built OK.

If yours is still crashing, turn Genius off. Or does it crash too son to let you do that?

i've got this problem too, however i solved it by turning off genius, deleting the itunes library genius.itdb file and then starting genius again.

my problem now is i can't use genius at all. when starting genius it just stays on the message "gathering information to apple", it's been stuck on this for 40mins. very dumb bug to have here
