Well good news, My WIFI start working again (by themself) all what i did was restored to 3 months back, restored again to today, reset the phone and start working...! yeahhhh.!

So I am now on my second iphone with wifi problems. I had these same problems with my first iphone and they replaced it. Now this one is having the same problem. So I guess I will be looking at a second replacement. Without the wifi the iphone loses its luster. I wonder why so many problems with wifi.

I've had an iPhone 3G for a few months, and am on my second phone. First one had a bad 3G antenna--WiFi worked fine, but lousy cellular reception. Apple replaced that one, and the replacement has been working great until today, when it lost all WiFi. Totally. No SSIDs, nada. Downloaded WiFiFoFum to see what it could see, and it saw...nothing.
So, I slapped the back of the iPhone against my palm, about like you'd see a guy knocking the ashes out of a pipe. Not too hard, but hard enough. WiFi started working again immediately.
Given that the slap-the-palm trick worked, and the freezer trick has worked for others, it looks to me like the WiFi problem is (at least in some cases) a hardware problem, having to do with a physical connection inside the iPhone. Maybe it's the WiFi radio, maybe it's the antenna, who knows, but something's not making a good connection in there.

Same here everything was fine until i upgraded to 2.2 on Saturday. I have restored and tried everything since. The only hope now is the the 3.0 release set for Wednesday can help. othewise i'm finnished with iphone had a 1st generation and just got the 3G a month ago cant even get on to my own wireless at home. *****.

My brother had the same problem and we had been searching forums, asking everyone etc. Finally we gave it to technical service. A week later they told us that they couldn't fix it so now my brother has a new iPhone.

Amazingly enough, I put my 3G in the freezer for less than 5 minutes and my wi-fi started working again. I was pretty skeptical, but I guess I believe now. I will see if everything still works tomorrow without refreezing.

After about 5 minutes out of the freezer, wi-fi shut down again. Today,I put in the freezer for another 5 minutes and my wi-fi came right back on. Going to call Apple and see if they will fix this. The problem is my phone is a refurbished one that I bought in January and I think the warranty is only 90 days. I'm pretty sure they're going to tell me I'm screwed.

My iPhone is doing the same thing..wifi access was intermittent for about two weeks and now its non-existent. Updated to 3.0 but that didnt help. Ive reset everything several times, and Ive restored it several times. Im draining the battery now, but I dont think that will work for mine. The freezer idea is stupid, so Im not even wasting my time with that bull. Who can I contact about this issue? The so called Genius bar is booked up.

I've tried it all, upgrade, downgrade. Just tried the freezer trick and to my surprise it worked. So conclusion is that its some kind of overheating issue, it will probably stop after a few hours again.
Suggest you take you iPhone back if you can. I could not, bought it in Bangkok (2G) 1½ years ago. Now having 3 pieces of 3G in the family, all without the wifi issue.

Hi,
I actually had this problem as well a few weeks ago. I wasn't quite sure why and I didn't want to restore my phone. I read a couple dozen posts here and saw that some people deleted some apps before their WiFi would work. This actually helped, I don't know if restoring my iPhone or erasing all my apps but my WiFi suddenly turned on and would want to connect to various networks.
Give it a shot, either deleting apps or restoring your phone. After restoring my phone, I also upgraded to 3.0.

I'm having the same problem. iphone has suddenly stopped connecting to my wifi. Have re-set up my wifi, have restored my iphone but nothing. sometimes it will find my network and connect and immediately disconnect. normally it just gives a message that it cannot connect and gives a 'dismiss' option. my 3 mac's and skype phone all connect without any problem... am really fed up with it..

Can inform that upgrading to OS 3.0 makes no difference. As always it worked for a couple of hours after reinstalling OS and then wifi cut off again. 5min in the freezer seems to be the only way to get it going but only holds for a short while.
I'm talking about my old (now daughters) 2G 3.0 unlocked/jailbreaked iPhone

Finally called Apple support...have to go to see a "genius" so I can get another phone. I would like to say that two days ago when I opened iTunes on my iPhone, wifi started working, but the signal was extremely weak...even when I was in the same room with the router. It stopped working about two minutes after it started.

Tried everything: reset, freezer, etc. How frustrating and no response from Apple! -- It is becoming as corporatized as Microsoft & if they wanted to prove that the company can launch updates and products without Jobs, then guess what?
Lapses like inability to integrate 3G and WiFi into a handset is something all other manufacturers overcame ages ago. Very strange that the WiFi died a slow death on my phone and I suspect the enabling of constant scanning fried something and why does the iPhone remind me of the windows days when each OS forced me to upgrade the machine? -- However, now Apple's 3GS doesn't seem to fare any better on this issue.
