3GS battery life

What is everyone's standby battery life? Right now on my 1G, it shows a standby time of 2 days, 9 hours with about 70% battery life left. My 3GS has 8 hours, 22 minutes and 88% battery life. Both these phones have not been used much more than comparing internet speeds. Is this normal, seems really bad battery life for a brand new phone.

I just replaced my original iphone with an 3GS and my battery kept going dead after just a few minutes of use. I kept charging it using my computer, the wall plug and my car adapter plug but it has continued to drain down much faster that my old iphone.

Keep in mind that the 1st generation iPhone used the EDGE network, which doesn't put as much demand on the battery as the 3G network.

you need to calibrate the battery. charge it to 100 then drain all the way. then charge again to 100. over time i would say a couple weeks you will get the full life of the battery.

My battery life on WiFi is so much better than when I leave it on 3G. For some reason it was the complete opposite from the regular 3G.

i've just purchased the 3GS and the battery life is draining faster than i go to the toilet and take a S**T. I use facebook or internet, it drains pretty quick. I charge it to 100%, play one game and after 10 mins later my battery life is at 80%...how can we get Apple to Fix up this problem. or how i contact them to make a complaint. had phone for 2 days and i dont like it...will bring it back..dont care if i leave a bad name with them

how can we get Apple to Fix up this problem.
It's not a universal problem (my battery does fine). If you just purchased it you cannot expect the best battery performance for a while; takes a few charge cycles.
or how i contact them to make a complaint.
Call Apple support or visit an Apple store. They're not in hiding

Returning it is your choice. There may be a restocking fee. Re "leave a bad name with them", not sure what you mean.

Ok if the battery is NOT a "universal problem" then why does apple sell lemon phones that are incapable of living up to their expectations? I dont have an issue with the phone or applications as i love it. I got a ipod nano and that works beautifully. But the battery life on the new 3GS is inexcusable. There are so many websites flooded with consumer complaints about the current battery life. i cant seem to be the only one with this problem and its on the rise. maybe if apple acknowledges this, not if or but, then thats fine. Since posting my last meassage about 30 mins ago my battery power deteriorated even more. However being a first time apple customer i i'll bring back my iphone and ask them to give me another battery i'll give then the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully that can rectify the problem. if not then i'll more to say

User, while I agree with you that it's inexcusable, I can also guarantee you that Apple has engineers working on this day and night. They are human and are aware of the general consensus (or at least aren't oblivious to what people are saying), and if it's an actual issue, they will get it fixed. Apple may not be the first company to immediately respond to certain issues, but they are one of the best in getting things resolved.
I went through three 3GS', and am still having some low battery life with my current phone. Since the 2nd 3.1 beta was seeded last week, I'd say that we should expect to see it released to the public within the next 3 weeks (hopefully 2). Keep in mind that our iPhone's come with a 1-yr warranty, so you can take it in anytime if a problem arises. Good luck
